O.K. I've heard from many people that you can play a divx file on a dvd player. Is this true? What do i do just burn the .avi/divx file to a cd as data and then pop it in my player? Thanx.
you have to have a dvd player that supports DivX first of all.
your question is both related to dvd players and burning, so i guess its ok here.... for now.
but for the most part, if you player support .AVI as well... go for it.
no encoding, very short time to burn, and you can even burn at max speed on data...
Sorry the post is in the wrong place. How do i know if my player supports AVI or DivX? will there be some kind of logo. and what about XviD is that possible too. Thanx for the reply.
gear so to get it straight. i have XviD and have converted a movie and burned it to dvd.... but i would only play on two of the dvd players in my home. if im understanding correctly its the player that will not support the XviD??? Is there a universal format that can be played on all dvds????

the only way you can get help is to read or ask for it... you came to the right place for info... this site is loaded with more then you think.
anyway, yes, a dvd player needs to support divx & xvid to be able to play it correctly.
most computer drives now will almost play all formats, providing the codecs needed are installed.
again, what player do you have that does not support the xvid & divx?
maybe there is a firmware hack for it and you can download it, make an ISO and burn it to disk, then install it in the player.
but your player is not listed, meaning that either they have not tested this player, or it flat out is not upgradeable....
how you upgrade it, you download a link, which is firmware, then you make an ISO image of the .exe file, then you burn it to cd, load it in the player, follow the on screen instructions, then thats it, your done.
but, i cannot find your player... is it an older unit, or fairly new?
keep in mind, not all products have this ability...
even on this link, which is always up to date, does not list your player...
