ok i am new very new , i just d/l bit torrent and can anyone give me a guide on porting so i can d/l faster its like 2kb now , and whats a router is that my high speed modem with the blinking lights

a router is something you add, not your modem.
You add it because it has multiple ports so that you can plug more than one thing in and share your internet connection.
Like this wireless one that i have for example.

as far as the opening ports thing, you should not need to do that.
But if you want to then i would search for "port forwarding"
But with torrent sites you can only get so fast. Depends on the
amount of seeds/leaches there are on what you want.

so i really dont need a router i only have one comouter and thats all thats on the net , this modem was given to me by my internet profider so would a motorola sb4101 modem slow my connection down any ,and can i go out and by my own modem
