Maybe. You should try booktyping them. It's probably 50/50 that they'll play. If you haven't bought any DVD's yet, get some Verbatim DVD-R's. If you already got the DVD+R's, then booktype them.

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).

as tokijin said try & get DVD-R. DVD+R seem to cause problems on ps2s (even ps2 slims) & some of the earlier versions will not read dvd+. bear in mind some ps2's dont even read DVD-R. it is recommended to try a backed up movie (on dvd-r) in a ps2 to make sure it can read it.
