Audio problem with joined AVI file

I have joined two avi files using virtualdub, but when the film plays through the point where the files have been joined I hear a beep/screech sound and the volume drops significantly. If I use the navigation bar to go to the point just after the join, the volume is the same as the rest of the film. Does anyone know why this is?

I have tried Vdub version 1.6.11 and 1.6.12.

Specifications of the 2 audios (VirtualDub____File information)?
I would not see that the 1st AVI is, say, MP3 128 kbps and the 2nd AVI has a different audio.
