Ok i have a ps2 v4 i resonly install a no solder swap type mod on it, and it worked like a charm, this weekend i had my kids over and we spend all weekend just about playing it, at the end of the day i was getting ready to bring them home they ask if they can borrow my Resident evil 4 game so i turn around and try to copy my saved games to their memory card, it kept saying corrupted data, well when i finally give up, i took the disk out and when to closed the tray, i pushed the reset button instead of eject, but the unit power it self off, no lights on the front and not even the fan comes on, i wonder if anyone heard of this problem before and if they didnt, i wonder if is time for a new unit. someone please let me know thanks.

ok i trace the problem to be ither the pnp key i installed or the reset switch, when i turn the power on the unit via the power switch on the back, of the unit, i hear the unit powering up, but the light on the reset switch wont ligh up, plus as i mention before, i have a multimeter and test the circuit board where the power comes in and the fuse is located and is getting power, i order a new pnp key, i hope it fixes the problem. thanks anyway for your reply.

I had the same problem except more serious and for a v7 PS2. I couldn't get the 2nd skinnier ribbon cable plugged in (can anybody tell me how to plug a ribbon cable easily?) and I tried using the chip without that cable in and it fried my circuit board (I had to get it replaced for $50 with installation). Now I hear that these modchips are known to burn out PS2's, is this true? I don't wan't to waste the $50 I spent on repair or $30 I spent on the chip (I can't return it for a refund).
It's Festivus for the rest of us!

Ok i got my new pnp key on and my machine still not powering up, i took the liverty to call tech support at sony and give them a bogus story about what happend and they told me it was the motherboard, they want it somewhere around $100.00 to repair, i found the motherboard for around 60 dollars and i can do it my self, so screw sony lol, in the mean time i pick up another use machine so i can play my games, this one is a v5 im getting the dms ezi, i read this chips are a miracle no need to solder and you get the same great results as the original dms4. and in a not related problem, i read in a magazine that sony was planning to introduce some kind anti piracy software on their games that is gonna make their games play only in one machine. well is somewhat true, my resident evil 4 game, when i try to copy my saves to my kids memory card would not load up, it will ask to start a new game. so i try renting the game again, and it would not work with my saves ither, very weird but is true, if someone have had this problem please do let me know.

That same thing happened tome what it is, Is the no solder mod isnt made professionaly its a clone like some chips example- Magic v and all magic chips discontinued
Any ways you have to replace the motherboard and buy a flip top or make 1 like i did. Or if you have an ipod go to my swapmagic and ipod really cool post I no magus57 was there. Also where did you buy it from??

Ok now power sounds liek what happened to me when i opened up my ps2. I have a v4. What happened was i pulled the top lid off and when i did that i ripped the power cable ribbon connecting to it. What you want to do is open up your ps2 and see if that ribbon is connected otherwise i do not know what is going on. It should be white with a blue tip, and is connected to the top half of the ps2.
