Hi all,
I wanted to rip transporter 2, I was going to rip the files to the hd and then burn them, I tried dvd shrink, dvdfab, dvd decrypter, clone dvd, clonedvd2 abd I get the same problem with the same file each time. The problem is with file VTS_04_03.vob. All the programs hang when it gets part way into that file. The files before it rip with no problem. Any help?? I tried it on my machine and other friends machines, I does not matter what system or specs are used , its that one file.

hi run the files through VOB BLANKER (free download)to remove any bad/dummy files.
alkohol has a great guide on how to use VOB blanker in the DVD Shrink forums.
if that fails to work try AnyDVD from slysoft you can get a 21 day free trial.

hope this helps

it could very well be the disk itself. Not all DVDs are good press. I've been running into more lately that I have to return due to bad press. Try a new disk of the movie and see. I didn't have any problem using DVDDecrypter with that movie! Check out my signature and you'll see my collection. Return the disk for another and you should have no problem.

Were you also using AnyDVD, because with that amount of programs you should have been able to do this one. I agree with IHoe it sounds more like a bad disk, try cleaning it or take it back and get another one.

Hey, I just tried VOB Blanker and it froze and errored out on the same file, I will get another dvd and see if its just a defective dvd, but its weird some people posted that the movie ripped fine with no protection or anything and other people are having problems like me. Another strange thing was that the disc is dobule sided, widescreen/full screen, and i had the same problem with the same fle on both sides of the disc

I have never seen a bad press before. Never even heard of one with years of retail experience. I wonder if you have a problem with your readers. I have seen many bad transfers but thats a function of the producer using a bad source and in all instances the movie plays fine but the quality is low. My understanding of the movie business is that they take alot of effort to make the burning process state of the art. There is alot of money to be lost if word got around that a particular movie distributor used shotty methods to burn movies especially big named hollywood titles.

I agree, a bad pressing would be odd, but I have 2 top burners on my system and then took it to a few friends with different readers and all had the same problem, the discs rips 88% good then hits that same file and stops every time no matter what program is used and with or without anydvd

Here is an article on one problem that can occur with pressed disks, I have had this problem with originals and it causes CRC/IO errors that nothing will get by.

It is my understanding that it's not the production of the movie per say, but the production of the DVD itself! To have a problem with the movie in the same area on both sides of a double sided DVD means that the DVD itself is at fault! Many others have backed up that movie just fine....... so try getting a new disk..... your problem should go away. Not all DVDs are perfect! I'm talking about the disk, not the production of the movie!

Well but what I dont understand about this is nobody I mean nobody gets defective dvd returns. As well as bad cd's just doesnt happen. The percentage is so low less than 1% that its not even tracked hard anymore. More people return disks because they didnt like the movie (yeah some retailers will take returns after they are opened). Im heavy into retail trends and product returns is something I track.

well....... believe it or not...... it does happen more often than you know! I now have almost 900 backups and I had to return about 10 DVDs (at least to my knowledge) and when I did get a new one it worked just fine for back ups! It might be minimal, but it does happen! And just because it's minimal doesn't mean to put that advise (change DVDs) on the back burner and forget about it! I stand by my results!

hey all,
thanls for the help and support. It turned out it was the disk, when I got another disk of the same movie, it worked fine. That was really weird, I didnt really think it was the dvd

Ok now 900 disks with 10 failures would be right although slightly over 1% but very close to the average. Remember most transported items have a 2% failure rate due to shipping problems and damage such as cold/hot weather etc. Because DVD/cd's are considered rather solid they dont get the 2% return rate average. By the way the extra 1% means more profit for manufacturers. Hmmm sony makes burn media and drives yet is mad about copying? Brillent marketing reminds me of politics.

Either the disc is badly scratched up or dirty, try to clean it with some car wash soap or wax and try to rip it again.

Transporter 2 is nothing special, DVD Decrypter alone can rip it flawlessly with either Mode, File F or Mode, ISO, Read. Below is what I used and it came out as a perfect backup, it doesn't even need any compression at all.

<> rip the movie with DVD Decrypter via Mode, File F
<> VobBLanker 2.1.0.0 to Process and filter out any left over craps/junks
<> and the rest is history, just transcode with Nero Recode 2, DVD Shrink or any of your desire transcoder/encoder engines
<> and burn with any of your desire burning engines

Good luck!!
