hi all, i just bought some DVD + and - from a guy at ma local market.
he said that one was go4 and the other go5 but when i get home burn and burn shadow of the collosus, it dont work, so i put the disk in the nero thingy and it tells me that the disk is a ritek... but its an r03. WTF, that's even the first time i heard of some r03 so what to do now about these disks, iv already opened the + pack so i cnt give those Back. but i can give the - ones back. Does anybody know about r03 are they any good should i give em back.

And about shadow of the collosus. when i put my game in, it shows a black screen. my ps2 is v5/6 so i used +r disks
i have just updated my firmware and downloaded wnasp.dll or summat and iv put it through dvd decryptor so i will try it again
i will get bck to u all with ma results the blck screen is probably i think to do with ma media
Please reply soon anyway, MUBS

Hey, I'm also using Ritek G04 and G05 and have never had a problem with a single game. I would suggest not using the +R's. Not all PS2's can read +R's. -R's are definately the way to go. I also have a V5 PS2 and I always use -R's. +R's don't work in my system.

Also make sure you watch your burn speed. Don't burn it at a high speed. I always stick with a 2X speed.

Computer Specs:
AMD Athlon64 3700+ (oc'ed to 2.5Ghz)
2gb OCZ premier RAM
ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard
two ATi X1600 Pro 512mb each running in Crossfire
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 500W PSU
LG DVD +/-RW drive 4120
ACER 19" LCD 1916B

NEVER buy media from dodgy places. media is very important and getting high quality from a reputable store is well worth the effort.

i have a V5 which reads +R fine but if it doesn't read on yours stick to -R. but if you have +R discs don't worry, they can become easily playable if you book-type them.

read through this to find instructions on book-typing:http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/275350

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
Booktyping with Nero and DVD Decrypter: http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php

Yes the Pioneer 110D can booktype. I believe the official firmware supports bookyping for DVD+R DL discs only. You have to use hacked firmware called Buffalo firmware to enable booktyping/bitsetting on that particular drive for DVD+R's. I checked with DocTY, AD's resident Burnmaster, and that's what he said. He said he wasn't 100% sure on that, but 90% for him is like 120% for the rest of us. So you may want to look around for the hacked Buffalo Firmware. You should check around or contact Pioneer's official site to see what they say. Just be sure the hacked firmware is the only way to enable booktyping/bitsetting for DVD+R's on your drive. Of course you could always use quality DVD-R's and not worry about. You get good deals on Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's at http://www.supermediastore.com

It's a DVD-RW drive, not a DVD-ROM drive, correct?

Nah he needs to flash it with the hacked Buffalo Firmware to enable bitsetting/booktyping for DVD+R's. By default the official Pioneer Firmware only supports booktyping/bitsetting for DVD+R DL media. I'll post a link as soon as I find one. It's available here: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=36788&start=0&postdays=0&po... This should work okay, but you should research it, contact Pioneer, and do whatever it takes to make sure you don't fry your drive. Cross flashing your burner with hacked firmware is risky. It could potentially fry your drive. Proceed at your own risk. Paddymails checklist contains useful info about upgrading firmware. If you follow all his suggestions 100%, you should be okay.

Paddy's Checklist:

102. Q. I want to upgrade my Firmware, but I'm afraid I'm going to fry my DVD Burner, what do I do?
A. Paddymail's checklist contains some useful protective measures for upgrading your firmware. The process isn't a 100% idiot proof, but with his check list, it's as close as it's gonna get. It contains a bunch of other useful info for PS2 backups as well.

Is your DVD Burner hooked up and functioning properly? That's stuff you do when you install your burner. The instuctions for your firmware upgrade will most likely be different. When I updated my firmware it was, make sure your DVD-ROM drive is empty, and deactivate all things running in the background, then run the Sony 1d.exe file. That was it. The hacked Buffalo firmware should contain a "readme" file with instrcutions for flashing your drive. It's careful you follow the directions exactly.

thanks for the replys,
@tokijin when u say does ur burner function properly?
well i can watch movies very perfectly with the same burner and windows does recognise it so yeah i think it does function properly and wot exactly are the chances of me frying my burner.
Because i know they are quiet cheap nowadays but their are consequences with me burning a brand new burner

Tanx anyway

I just mean does it burn okay, aside from booktyping/bitsetting? My burner supports booktyping/bitsetting fine. It doesn't however support PIE scans, the key component to Nero CD/DVD Speed scans. I could cross flash it with BenQ firmware to enable PIE scans, but in my opinion, it's not worth the risk. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to PC's and DVD burning, but I get great results when burning to quality media. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You could always forget about flashing it with hacked firmware and invest in some quality DVD-R's. I use 8x Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's (TYG02) from http://www.supermediastore.com for PS2 backups. They have great deals on TY's and Verbatim's. If you're unsure at all about flashing with hacked firmware, do not attempt it.

@mub6- the black screen at start sounds like a bad burn to me.

maybe the R0# are just not compatible with your burner... some dvds arent compatible with the burner

and "Hey, I'm also using Ritek G04 and G05 and have never had a problem with a single game. I would suggest not using the +R's. Not all PS2's can read +R's. -R's are definately the way to go. I also have a V5 PS2 and I always use -R's. +R's don't work in my system"

Wong C Fu this is not true, my v7 ps2 used to play any type of DVD+R (even complete crap dvds) and would never start a DVD-R (even Maxel or the best media) thats just how it used to to work.

yeah there is no hard and fast rule for media and its support. it all comes down to the individual ps2 and burner.

i dont know if this could be the problem, but my dvd burner is not horizontal, it vertical. you see becuse my base unit is supposed to be horizontal but iv put it sideways so it can fit in my desk. Therefore all of my drives have now been flipped sideways. Maybe this could be the problem because i now have to put in my discs sideways not flat down onto the tray (or maybe not because ps2's can be placaced vertically and they read disks fine) anyway im going out to by some verbatims -r from the market. cya all ina couple of hours

well, i once burnt a games while my cpu was horizontal, so my dvd writer was sideways and i burnt a game and it worked fine.

but yeah, put your drives in the normal position. it might help and make the desired difference.

mub ur problem is simple... if verbatims, TY, or any other dvds work and R03,R04,R05 dotn work then simply dont use those dvds...again i think its your burners compatibality, because theres alot of good quality dvds that just dont get along with my computer and burner.
