Datawrite Classic Titanium DVD+R 8x (CMC MAG. AE1)
Datawrite DVD-R 8x Printable (CMC MAG AE1)
Memorex DVD-R 8X (CMC MAG AE1)
Philips DVD-R 8x (CMC MAG AE1)
Shintaro DVD-R 8x (CMC MAG. AE1)
ridisc DVD-R 8x cmc mag AE1

ok iv done my research and these are the media with the same MID. But mine is 'verbatim DVD-R 8x certified pearl white'. And with the search button iv found out that this cmc mag thing is related to cmc magnetics which is supposed to be a total load of garbage.

Please dont tell me i have just been bummed. PLLEEAASSE. That would be an extremely large problem seeing that i am super straight.
Somone help me!!

@mub- unfortunately cmc mags are garbage.

but Steimy, an afterdawn addict & expert in ps2 issues. uses philips 8x discs and has got complete success with it.

and i have a feeling that those are CMC Mag as well. PM him to find out for sure.

unfortunately, Verbatims for a short period of time outsourced it to CMC Mag, and you got hold the rotten bunch.

so here is what you can do:

1.PM Steimy about those Philips and see if you are lucky

2.Keep the CMC Mags for video and data needs

3.Go to a reputable dealer. get some 8x -R Made in Japan Maxell. becuase I have had enormous success with Maxell and Maxell are really easy to get. but remember get Made in Japan ones and from a reputable dealer.

btw, did you try putting the dvd writer the normal way?

Yeah don't get the Datawrite Verb's. For awhile Verbatim outsourced their discs to CMC Mag plants in Taiwan. Once word of this got out, they quickly switched back to high quality MCC dyes. There are still some CMC Mag Verb's out there. Just avoid the Datawrite ones, pick some Verb's that look like this: http://www.supermediastore.com/verbatim-branded-8x-dvd-r-media-94... You can 50 packs of Verbs at Sam's Club and other chain stores for $15. Those will work fine.

ok, i think ill get the hacked firmware but im confused as to what i should click on in the link u referred me to earlier. please could you shed some light on this matter.
and also - what is cross flashing - isnt the proper definition to change firmware to a different model
if so then why does it say on that link that u referred me to earlier 'pioneer or buffalo flashing programs do NOT cross flash' (what does this mean) what is a flashing program and why dont the two flashing programs cross flash (you'd have to cross flash them since they are two different models - shouldnt you), i just dont get it, please could somebody explain
and what does it mean when it says '2 firmware files (kernal and normal) are required use agent smiths dvr flash v2.2 or newer to cross flash'
thanx in advance

If you have this much uncertainty about flashing, don't do it. You need a good level of PC and burning knowledge to flash your burner with Hacked Firmware. I'm no expert, but I won't attempt cross flashing my burner. There are plenty of places in the U.K. to get Verb's.

Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

in dvd decryptor, set try setting the booktype as lite-on - next write - dvd-rom and press the apply button. it might say 'success!'. i know urs isnt lite on but it works for me even with other brands of burners...

Well could you search to the best of your ability? That may not be the exact definition of cross flashing, "flashing with hacked fw", w/e. I don't know a ton about it, that's why I didn't elaborate. Burners, FW, and flashing aren't my specialty. Your burner is the Pioneer 110DVR, right? It's clearly labeled in that link. With all the confusion you have with this, don't risk frying your burner. That's my opinion, you're free to do as you choose.

Anyway @ ghost. when i go to change the booktype in dvd decryptor i choose lite on and on the drop down menu under 'change for' i choose the dvd+r/+rdl but nothing happens even when i click ok.
any more ideas
Thanx anyway

It's okay, I'm snippy for various reasons, no big deal. I don't what to give you advice that I'm not sure on. I've never flashed my burner with hacked firmware. From what I've read it isn't that hard, but you must be extremely careful. I could cross flash mine with BenQ firmware If I wanted, but I have no reason to. My burn quality is excellent as is, I don't want to fry my only DVD Burner. If you choose to, proceed with caution. I've given you my recommendation and some reliable sites that carry TY's and Verb's in the U.K., the rest is up to you. Cheers!

Ok, well i guess i will have to get the media code sometime.
I think they are CMC Mag, not sure as i have never tested them.
My only test is that i have used them for at least 2 years now and they work for me every time. But that is just me.
Plus they have great sales on them at Office Depot,Circuit City, and Radio Shack.
Like i just got 4 25 packs this weekend because Circuit City had them for $5.99 for a 25 pack which is just great.

I use them for my movies, Xbox games and PS2 Games and have never had a problem that was not cause by something other than the disc.
I have not had any lasers burn out on either of my PS2's, and i have never had a game stop working. All signs of bad media.
Now they are not rated at the top of the list like Taiyo Yuden's are but i would put my success rate up against anyone who uses the top media. I think Philips started to make better discs a few years back after teaming up with Mitsubishi Chemicals who makes Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. Together they created the dual layer (DVD9) discs.

I just never suggest using Memorex, because they suck.
I never suggest off brands, like store brands, discs with no name on them, or brands that no one has heard of. Those are the one's that really use cheap dye and you have to worry about. That and watch out for fake Taiyo Yuden discs as they are out there, everyone wants to copy the best.

I suggest a good 8X DVD-R burned at 4X with DVD Decrypter in one of the following brands

Taiyo Yude (watch out for fakes)
Verbatim
Ritek
Philips
TDK
Sony or Maxcell (made in Japan only!)

I think it's more luck than anything Steimy. Philips outsources their discs, so maybe you got lucky and ended up with Ritek. It's very possible you got CMC Mag. Maybe it worked in your case, but that's not the norm. Post some quality scores from those two year old discs, or even from some newer ones. I don't have any two year old discs, but I'm willing to bet my Taiyo Yudens will beat you in quality scores. Maybe not, it'd be interesting to see.
