well i keep getting a "Cyclic Redundency Error" every time i try to back up m copy of Princess Mononoke. So, i insert the disk in my DVD reader drive and bring up DVDShrink. i go open disk and select the drive with the DVD in it and press ok. it starts to analyse but gets to about 54% (29 seconds remaining), then stops and gives me this "Cyclic Redundency Error" thing. i then herd that puting the disk in a DVD writer drive helps cus they read better or somthing, so, i tryed it and it actualy analysed the entire disk! but the i went to back it up as an .ISO and it gave that damed "Cyclic Redundency Error" again. i no for a fact that its not the encryption because not only is it an older movie but i have DVDShrink and AnyDVD runing.

the disk is fairly scratched so im assuming thats the problem. now for my question, does any one no of a way to repair scratched disks?
ive already run my CD Doctor over it with no prevail and am thinking of doing it again but i would like to no if theres another way. ive heard people mention tooth paste before but i dont no for sure if that works...

well any help would be nice Thnx!

If you can exchange the disk for a newer/better (no scratches), it might be a time saver.

You could also try DVD Decrypter in File Mode, it is not as particular as Shrink.

Here's an idea! They might not all do it but try going to your local video store (blockbuster, hollywood video, ect.) and say hey i'll give you a couple buck to throw this disk in your resurfacing machine, or they might just do it for free.

Try spin doctor or skip doctor. Don't be alarmed after using this product the disks actually look like they will never work again. I have used this product several times and it works great.

Good Luck

I have had 2 of my pc game disk resurfaced at my local vid store by a lets say younger geneation person. (who doesnt necasarily care about liabilty) because face it your disk is already messed up. If you dont have means to transport, there are always online resurfacing companies that will offer to resuface if you pay to shipping and fees to get it there (there is one guy on Ebay) but do your homework on prices and reliability in your selection.

Good luck!!

i have the same problem and have discovered that its the dvd itself thats the problem, its the way the dvd came which means u stuck with not been able to make back up copies.u can try avi2avi to get the video part u are able to save as back up into megpeg.which means some parts it wont let u retrevieve it and save it,thats where the error part will come in.. what i do is when i burn a master copy dvd,i then use DVD Shrink not to shrink it but to scan the dvd and back up a copy into a temp folder to make sure it can back up completely without a proiblem, ive had ocasions where it gave me that error u talking about and i ended up re burning another back up master copy and again shrinked it to a folfer to make sure it can back up completely without a problem,as the error on the dvds are due to a bad disk encryted error ,its a hit and miss and will never know which ones have it unless u do the procedures i do even if its time comsuming, but well worth it at the end.hope that helped some

ok i tryd it again and noticed that its not that it freezes at a certain point, but that it freezes at 29 seconds, no matter wat part of the movie it is, it always freezes there... does that hold any significance? well still trying >_< but still not having any sucsess.

The below was posted by 2oldgeek, perhaps his instructions will benefit you.
Quote:
Clean the disc with glass cleaner or alcohol, even if it don?t look dirty..
Check for scratches, maybe use some toothpaste to polish out. Clean again.
Try reading from another drive if you have one. That works sometimes.

Set up DVDDecrypter for an aggressive read Mode.
In DVDDecrypter go to: Tools -> Settings ->
Try these settings for

General Tab
Options ? Removal Method ? Aggressive

File Mode Tab
Options ? Remove PUOs (IFO and VOB)

ISO Read Mode Tab
Options ? Remove PUOs (IFO and VOB)

CSS Tab
CSS Cracking Method
Brute Force -> I/O Key Exchange
On Failure ? Yes

I/O Tab
Options ? Ignore read errors

I also heard about toothpaste, but as I have informed the video store from which I rent sometimes dvd's sends thme to another person which is resurfacing them. Once that I was trying to backup a movie (Underground) the girl from video store gived me the one that they had for rental and kept mine. She said that every week they send some dozens for resurfacing, so the cost for them is to low.

Nope. didnt work either. ok so wat im thining is, mabey if i just copy and past the folder to my hard drive then, burn it /w Nero7 and see if that works... the only problem with that is when i go to copy the files off the DVD two of the files give that f^cking "Cyclic Redundency Error". this is wat the folder should look like (note the VTS_03_4 and VTS_03_5 files r actualy there)

now this is wat my copied folder looks like...

the files mentioned above (03_4 and 03_5) keep giving me this cant copy error. DVD Decrypter wouldnt handle them either. it retried 60 times then skiped them.

so i was wondering if any of u guys have/no about a super ripper utility that i can use to forcefully rip the files off the disk.

I would say your disk is scratched enough in that spot that it cant read through it to copy the files. I have heard and expirienced these problems already. Either ship disk out to be resurfaced (which i have done on seval occasions) or try Clone DVD 2.5. I heard that program works better that encryptor. Im sure the trial version will work fine.

If the movie is older I suggest to use DVD Ripper. This application has saved me in analog situations in the past. I cannot suggest any further.
