Hello, I just bought a ps2 of ebay. The seller said it's 2 weeks old and I get the coupon and guarantee with it. Now it's a starter pack, containing a silver slim ps2 with two controllers and 1 memory card.

Now I have been reading the stickies and Tokijins FAQ.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252193

In Tokijins FAQ there is a mention of ps2 versions 12 to 14 having a bad laser lens, that needs a fix or your laser lens might burn out fast. Now the seller says the ps2 works fine, he's very polite and has anwsered all my question, and I know his adress. So he is probably not lieing. But Still I want to know if the laser is going to burn out in as little as 6 months. Now in Tokijins FAQ he links to a page which tells you how to recognize which version you have.
http://mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm
But to be honest I do not see from that page how I can find out which version I have without opening the ps2 and thus voiding the guarantee on it. Now does anyone here have better suggestions as to how to find out which version you have, is it maybe in the manual or someplace else.

Plus concernening the laser fix, I haven't been able to find any Dutch group that sells it online, so if any of you by any chance lives in holland and knows where to get the fix should I need it. Thnx in advance.
I have tried to search for this an anwser before posting, but did not find it. But if I was just beeing stupid and mist it, you can flame me if you atleast tell me the anwser to my question.

In any case thnx in advance for any anwsers.

to find the version look on the sticker that should be on the back of your PS2. there will be a number like SCPH-70004
then go here or do a search for PS2 version and there are many sites with lists.
http://www.mod-chip.com/ps2version.htm

as far as the laser, the only one that i know that really needed
the laser fix was the V12. Most sites that mod V13 or V14 slims
will tell you that they are not needed. It is just that little extra
piece of mind if you want to get one. With a chip, since they are installing and soldering anyway you might as well get one. they are cheap here in the US, about $10

Thnx for the quick anwsers, but I do not think that you provided adequete enough informations. Cause on that site I see that the european version of the v.12 is: SCPH-70004 , and the v13. SCPH-70004 , and the v14 SCPH-70004. So basicly the v12,the v13 and the v14 have the same number on the back side.

it doesnt really matter in your case because any white or silver slim ps2 can only be a ver 14.

Well update. I've just talked to the venerable Davbere, and he says the v.13 PS2 and later do not require a laser fix. I've talked to three modders on the subject, and two of three say that the v.13 PS2 and later do not require a laser fix. That's good enough for me. I'm going to edit my FAQ to that affect.
