I've looked for these answers everywhere on this forum but have gotten mixed messages. I have a V10 w/ an Infinity Matrix (latest firmware upgraded today) Here are my questions re: dvd9 backups:

1) Does the .iso image or .mds image from dvddecryptor have to be flashed with the Toxic patch (since my PS2 can read dvd9 already?) Does the need for Toxic Patch depend on the game or the mod chip?

2) can DL -R disks be used instead of DL +R disks? will they also "automatically" change to dvd-rom? (which leads to last question)

3) I have a Pioneer 110D w/latest firmware. Has anyone had success backing up dvd9 PS2 games on this drive? everyone seems to use BenQ or Ricoh or some other choice where you can manually change the booktype....

4) I'm using Ritek DL disks (+ and -) Is this a possible problem with the Pioneer?

I've already gone through 6 -R and 6 +R dual layers trying to backup GT4, but my 5 and 6 year olds RUIN every disk that gets in their hands, so in the long run, I'd rather learn how to do DL backups. thanks in advance.

1. If you have a legit MI, then there's no need to patch DVD-9 backups with Toxic DL patcher, the chip does it automatically.

2. Yes you can use DVD-R DL discs if you prefer. I use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and booktype them to DVD-ROM. I've backed up Xenosaga, GT4, and MGS:2 like this. They all play perfectly on my v. 4 modded with an MI.

3. Nero Booktypes automatically. I'm not sure how to booktype Pioneer drives with DVD Decrypter, I believe 109 and on support booktyping. the 108 required hacked firmware to enable booktyping/bitsetting. I'll ask the Doc if Pioneer 110D supports booktyping/bitsetting.

4. Ritek DVD+R DL discs are decent. I think Verb's are better, but you should be okay with Ritek's.

5. You burn DL media the same as single layer media. Burn at half the max speed of the disc with DVD Decrypter. I backup my Verb DVD+R DL discs at 2x with DVD Decrypter.

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
