i have a one and a half year old laptop. Sparingly used drive - no problem till november, when it stopped writing to a cd disc saying invalid media. No problems in reading cds. Sometime would write the cd but i would find no files on it. I use windows XP cd writing software - always had. It also does not read a dvd, keeps trying to read.
Troubleshooting asks for a DVD decoder. How do i get one?

windows xp is updated. My rescue disc is a dvd! The site has no decoders fitting the bill!
