PS2 laser sound when reading disc

Hi.

When I play streaming games like Shadow of the Colossus I can hear the laser moving back and forth working when I'm out in the open and it's loading the environment etc. I was just wondering if this is normal? When I play games like Jak 2 and DMC3 I only hear this sound when the game is loading and not so much while playing. Is it like this on the original PS2 games also or does the laser work harder when reading backups?
The games play ust fine without and slowdowns etc. I'm just curious about the sound the laser makes.

I'm using SM 3.6 with Verbatim DVD-R btw.

i dont have that game but some games need the laser to read the disc a lot more than others (sims2 is always making the laser work overtime).it could just be that. as for DVDR making the laser work harder no - not if you use quality media like you have done.

What speed did you burn at? I reccomend you always burn at half the maximum speed (I burn at 4x onto 8x Verbatim DVD-R)
