Interesting... I found that using anything over UDF 2.01 (which worked fine) (ie. 2.5 or 2.6) immediately generates the Cannot Connect TRF. Tried to write to DVD+RW. I tried increasing my VM to 768 min, but that didn't do anything. The machine has 256 RAM. This was Nero 6.0.1.4. My previous version, 6.0.0.15 I believe, didn't have any option for anything over UDF 2.01. Either way, I understand UDF 1.02 is really the most you need for a data DVD. So I guess there are various reasons for the error.

Most people have updated their software. As I mentioned, 6.6.0.18 is the most stable of the recent releases and the 6.6.1.4 has caused problems with the TRF issue among them.

Quote: PHILIPS DVD8631> Version: BB03 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.13
Both, firmware and Nero are outdated. update nero here:
ftp://ftp.us2.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe
and firmware here:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/Gd30.zip
This may solve your media problem. With new updates you should be able to burn faster than X2. X4 would be optimal.

Also you don't have much memory, so don't multitask(if you were:)!).

Did you try the correct firmware? Before you try, disable the other drive in your PC, make sure there is no blank media in your drive and close any other applications.

You all are great! Thanks so much for the info. I immediately went to work on it and it worked like a charm! Aside from my DVD Shrink slowing down on me significantly for some odd reason over the past 2 months that I've been using it, things still get done. My pc is pretty old though with a lot of upgrades... new motherboard included.
Thanks again for all your brilliant minds!

6.6.1.4 created the problem. Reverting to 6.3.1.19 cured it after using the clean tool to get rid of all Nero programs...

Guess you didn't read the posts toward the top of the page. There's no need to revert all the way back to 6.3.1.19, but I guess it would work.

For what it's worth the only time I have ever seen that particular error was media related. One of my computers does not like ritek and every time I used Nero and ritek I got the same error. May not help but going to tys on that computer the problem never happened again. And like you see going slower does make a difference. Also I use 6.6.0.18 after trying 6.6.1.4 and not liking it at all.

Don't know if you found a solution yet, but this worked for me. In DVD Shrink preferences, under File I/O tab, make sure "Enable burning with Nero" is unchecked.

If you are unchecking "enable burning with Nero" you are not actually solving the problem(which is a buggy Nero), and Shrink will not autoburn with it. The only way to fix it(and probably done), is to get a different Nero version. What you suggest is acually done by selecting the target device the HDD, save the files and then open the burning software and burn. Some people though, they like to put the blank DVD in, start DVD Shrink and come back and have the DVD burned already.
Although, if you have a full version of Nero, not an OEM, which means that you have Nero Recode, I would suggest using Recode instead of Shrink, as it is twice faster, and very good quality output.
Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!

Creaky,
Thanks for the quick response and link!
I am running version 6.6.1.4 after UNINSTALLING the latest
version 7.5.1.1 something or other.....
Anyways I bought this software and it was before ver. 7 ultra was released and I have a All In Wonder 9600 video card that I paid almost $300 for. Then after upgrading to version 7.5, my video capture function CEASED to work.
I wrote Nero and the said we are sorry but your video card is NO LONGER SUPPORTED, and they REFUSED to give me a link so I could uninstall the new version and go back to the old.
I just re-installed ver 6.6.1.4 and ver 3 of the video capture program works GREAT!
I haven't tried to use DVD Shrink and Nero as my default burner
to check if that is a problem or not. Perhaps I will try it 1st and if it works I am ok.
Does version 6.6.0.13 support Video Capture?
If Not I'll stay where I am cause its working Flawlessly.
Thanks for the post!

no idea about the video capture i'm afraid. But if you're working fine i'd leave it well be for now :)
no problem, we can look into this more if need be, but as i say, if it's working, just enjoy it for now until (possibly) something stops working..

Creaky,
Is Brobear permanately suspended?
If So Why did they boot him? (if u can say)
Also thanks for the info on this older release I downloaded it anyways, just in case I might need it. I wrote Nero and told them the latest release lost even more functionality (in addition to the video capture function going away) and I wanted to go back to a earlier version that worked.
NO Reply as of yet, but their tech support is very very slow since there is a LB (Language Barrier) and they are in Germany.
I am glad I found a version that works and let me capture video, you can keep the latest and greatest version!
Thanks,
Mattmin
