I have a bunch of dvds that were copies of old vhs tapes. Mostly programs from tv. I want to edit out commercials. I have not been able to find a easy program to use. If I want to remove 2 or 3 minutes of commercials, I don't want it to take 3 or 4 hours. It seems like that most of the video authoring programs are geared towards video camera footage. I have played around with a few of them but no luck. I am working with vob's if that would make any difference. I don't know if the files need to get changed to a different format to make them easier to edit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

vob blanker should help you out. Just do the following but in the preview screen top right quadrent make sure you select "cut movie". I haven't tried it but I believe it will work.

the main movie can be shortened by:
1 select the VTS for it
2 Select it from the list of PGC's (Usually the first one) you'll know it by it's duration.
3 click preview/cut
4 in the pop up screen top left hand corner in the go to box use the drop down to go to cell 1 and then use the slider to pick your start frame.directly to the right it says initial mark. click the mark button to lock it in. as well as the [ button at the bottom right of the preview screen
5 back in the go to box use the drop down to get to the 2nd to last cell. A preview will appear on the screen. If it's the credits, go to the 3rd to last cell and so on untill you find the end of the movie. use the slider to select the end frame. then go to your right again and this time click the mark button in the end mark box. as well as the ] button @ the bottom right.
6 if you are satisfied with your selection click ok.

Thanks TRAVELON for the info. Its funny but someone at work just mentioned the same program. I read a tutorial on it and it seems like it will do exactly what I want. Thank you for your tutorial also.

Another tool for the task is DvdReMake. There are many people on this forum who use it and find it more user friendly and more powefull but it is not free. http://www.dimadsoft.com/dvdremake

I burn TV shows onto a DVD-RW and then I use Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4.0 to edit out the commercials, and then burn the edited DVD back onto a disc. UDMF4 allows you remove scenes frame by frame. Pretty easy to use too.

Does it really do frame by frame, or cell by cell? That's pretty remarkable if it does that!!!!

sytyguy ,

I think its frame by frame, although I could be wrong and it could be cell by cell. Maybe the terms are interchangeable as far as the program goes.

ARTW

I do not think you will need my help, but if you do I will help out. Keep in mind that I work Midnite till 8 am and sleep during the day.
Also keep in mind that UDMF4 works very well in editing DVD`s. I can not get it to edit dvd files on my hard drive. So if the main and most important thing that you want to do is to edit actual physical DVD`s , this is it. Beyond that.....
When you get done editing the disc it copies the file onto your hard drive before burning. It also can create chapters and a Menu. If you do not like or want a Menu , you can always run your project through DvdShrink to strip them out. Good Luck.
