get the 1500uf 10v or higher as in 16-25v. take a look at all the caps closely on the tops to see if any more. that problem is not just that board as i've fixed a couple dozen boards & a few psu's with bad caps. i presume you have a soldering iron & solder for electronics?

maker certain the new caps are aligned as the old caps or they will go off like fire crackers.

thanks there ddp, back in my younger days we used to set them off with a power supply and lots of lead wire. those things stink like hell when they go off. i will let you all know how it goes when i get the caps...

i saw a few go off when at devry in 1980. paper was flying into the air from electrolytic caps

installed the caps and same problem. something else may have been damaged when the caps went off. where can i find the board number to search for a replacement? (hp xt936) or i may get a totally new machine. thanks, Bryan

Could it be a problem with the monitor's resoloution? My desktop here would not work with the monitor from my old Windows 98 computer. If you have a really old monitor, that MAY be a problem. Don't know IF this is YOUR issue, but it was mine. Bottom line: my monitor was too old. See if you can find a way to test it.

i have tried a diff monitor. the caps are installed the same way as the old ones. i checked the connections with a dvm and they are good. i will keep researching as time permits... thanks again, Bryan
