I have had no trouble backing up PS2 games until now. I cannot get Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition to work. I burned using decryptor and alcohol 120% at 4x and 2x speeds. The game loads the "Playstation 2" screen but then stays black. Has anyone had this problem? Someone please tell me how to fix this.

What type of media are you using? What's the Media ID?
91. Q. What is the Media ID of a DVD and how can I find it?
A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID. You can also use a program called DVD Identifier which is very useful. You can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...
Last but not least you can use DVD Info Pro: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Compare the Media ID to this link: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

I burned DMC3:SE fine with Alcohol 120% and didn't need to rebuild any ISO. The game is 4.1GB in size, so, as I understand it, you shouldn't need to rebuild the ISO, even if you're using Swap Magic.
I used Sony DVD+R, incidentally.
Are you sure you unRARed (if a downloaded game) properly? No errors when unRARing? Also, try different media and a different burner, if you can. Backing-up movies and games successfully is a huge matter of trial and error, from what I can tell.
For example, the first couple of games (including DMC3:SE) I tried to burn on my DVD burner wouldn't work. Once I tried my dad's burner, they worked fine. Go figure.

If those Sony DVD+R's are made in Japan, they're Taiyo Yuden's. There's few universal rebuilding rules. Theoretically if you're using quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatimm, your firmware is uo to date, your burner is in DMA mode, and you shut down all programs while burning, this game shouldn't need rebuilt. But some PS2's are picky, and 80% of people on this site don't do those 4 things. So with that factored in, some people may get by with a straight burn for this game, others will have to rebuild.

I tried rebuilding but it didn't work. I have tried different media as well. Nothing's working. I used some general purpose media and got the "Playstation screen" and the screen "that asks you if you want to save to your memory card" then it stays black. I then tried the Riteck that I have used to make over 150+ backups and I only got the "Playstation screen"; just stays black after that. I have a modchip that is working fine with all my other backups. I tried to use DVD+R but the book type will not change to DVD-Rom. I have even restored my computer to factory settings. Nothings working.

I doubt it's the iso, I downloaded my version as well. Ritek is second class media, try some Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim from http://www.supermediastore.com Did you try all three methods of rebuilding?

Well after restoring my computer to factory settings. I have concluded that the problem is the media. Riteck failed me! It had never failed me before. I was able to make the back up without rebuilding from regular, 2 year old, no-name, general purpose DVD-R! Straight rip and burn! I will never buy Riteck again. I have been using Riteck media for at least 3 years without fail. Now Riteck only produces coaster after coaster for game backups. Works fine for movie backups. I am in total shock! I am just glad I found the problem. I will be using the Tao Youden (not sure of the spelling) for now on. Be warned for all those who love Riteck media.
This is the media I purchased from Meritline
Ritek RiData 8X DVD-R Media (Silver Shiny) G05 4.7GB DVDR
Disc (DRD-47-8X50)
I deem this media no longer fit for game backups. 6+ coasters produced! Would not produce even one working backup- tried on different games as well.

Ritek is solid, but I had issues with almost right way when burning PS2 games. After researching and looking around I came to the same conclusion. Don't trust that no name media either, if you want to keep this from happening in the future, get some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's from http://www.supermediastore.com

i've also never had any problem with burning games that were under 4.7 gigs until this game also, i'm not sure what the problem is, it gets to the screen where it ask if i want to create a save file and tells me it detects dmc3da data and that bloody palace and virgil are playable, then it gets stuck on a black screen right afterwards

why would i have to rebuild though, its not my media, my media is great, up until now i've burned over sixty games and not one failed to play or needed to be rebuilt, so why all of a sudden would i have to rebuild this game? i'm just going to try another copy, i'll let ya know if it does the same thing, i'm hopin that was just a bad disc.
