I have searched using the search method here and can not find this answer to this question and I don't know where to post this question.
How do I make copies on my computer of dvds that I have made on my dvd recorder?
I would love to make backup copies of dvds that I have made on my lite-on DVD recorder but don't know what programs I need. The dvds that I have made are the dvd-r and dvd+r formats that have been finalized.
I have a PC with Windows XP ...it is a dell Dimension 4600 with a dvd burner in one drive.
I would appreciate any help and points in the right direction.
Again, I did not know which forum to post this in but since it is about dvds I have made on my dvd recorder that is why I thought to post it here.
Thanks,
Jill

Hey Jill,
There shouldn't be a problem with copying the dvd, if your burner is compatible with your dvd -r/-rw.
I recorded UFC 57 the other night and have made copies of that.

Yes 1 click dvd copy is quite good. I tink you can get a free trial from the afterdawn software section.
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/
You can also use dvd x copy. That costs though, so the other one will be your best bet.
You can always try www.download.com

You may need to use DVDXCopy "RF", the one where the browse button works. I personally just use RW discs and don't finalize. I'm still fooling around with our recorder and have only transfered one Discovery Channel program to a permanent disc +R disc. It was semi-sucessful using DvdXCopy RF. The problem was sound related. The sound is there, however when I skip chapters (set up in 10 min. intervals) the sound disappears. Could just be a receiver setting, though.

I downloaded DVD Decrypter today and I can read my homemade dvd and transfer to an ISO file but when I try to write the ISO file to a DVD...I get I/O error message device 1:0:0 Interpretation Check condition Cannot write medium Incomp Format and it will not write the dvd. ...I get I/O error message device 1:0:0 Interpretation Check condition Cannot write medium Incompatiable Format and it will not write the dvd. I then found out through my sister that I should try a firmware update for my dvd drive (I have a NEC dvd RW ND 1300A) and found the firmware update then did it. I then tried a test burn after restarting the computer and at first it seemed to go fine but during the writing image phase, it stopped writing as the write speed was zero and it was just sitting there...so I had to cancel the ISO write. Any help on what might have caused that???
Anyone have any suggestions for help?
I tried to burn the dvd via Roxio burning the ISO to dvd but get the message that the parameter is incorrect when I do a test to burn the dvd...and via Roxio help I can not find anything about parameter there...
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

I was able to use DVD Decrypter, FIXVTS, and DVD Shrink to solve my problems and make copies of my homemade dvds.
