I've used eac with the help of the afterdawn guide (using the profile suggested in the guide) and everything is great on my computer. Problem is, i also have the motorola rokr, which seems to have a cap on the bitrate it is willing to play (as well as the 100 song cap). I think the max bitrate it supports is 192kb/s, but i'm not positive about that (if anyone knows exactly, let me know), so what i need to know wrt eac, is whether or not i can keep my variable bit rate for better sound quality and compression, while not exceeding a certain bitrate. If this is not possible with eac, can someone suggest a good program (LAME encoding preferred) that does?

thanks

if your phone is having problems reading vbr mp3 files then still use eac to rip to mp3 but use cbr at 192.

I know that i could use cbr, but i was wondering if there was to limit the max bitrate of a vbr, seeing as how using cbr @ 192 would create pretty large files, and would fill my transflash card pretty quickly.

I think you can set a maximum bit rate for VBR files but that kind of defeats the purpose because you won't get any frames at 224, 256 or 320 kBps.

How do you do this? The reason I ask is because, as I said above, my phone only plays up to 192kb/s, and memory is limited. So while I realize that I won't get framses at 224, 256 or 320 kbps (regardless, since I wouldn't be able to play them), if i could stay at a capped vbr (@192), instead of a constant, I could potentially save some space on less complex sections of song, and thus save some space on my phone's memory.

p.s. does anyone recommend switching to ogg vorbis, mp3 pro or aac? I believe my phone plays them all.

MP3 Pro is crap. AAC isn't much better than MP3. You could try OGG but not many devices support this format. So I would stick with MP3 if I was you.

regarding EAC. Set the max bit rate to 192 in the compression box.
