Hi, I have a speedtouch 576 which I would like to use to setup a wireless connection in my house. I am using daemon internet (a UK firm) to try to connect. When i plug the modem in I pick up the connection perfectly but do not know what to do from here,ie if i need to go to a setup page? am very confused. I would be very grateful if somebody could talk me through the steps I need to follow to set up the connection for 4 computers that can all pick up the connection but do not get through to the internet. If you need any other info just let me know and I will provide it. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Sunny

My friend gave me his US Robotics Wireless modem/router to configure for use with his laptop. According to the manual the default address is 192.168.2.1 for this equipmentt. Trying to connect using both wired or wireless connection using US Robotics usb stic I had no success. Does anybody knows if can be done something in case that he has altered the ip address to reset? I checked also 192.168.1.1, according to my Zyxel manual, but I had a SNAFU!

Thanks wdowsing, but it was of no use it says just use the setup CD to configure the modem however I don't have the setup CD so if anybody knows where i could download the data contained on this disc that would be great. Or provide me with further help in setting up this connection.

I found these items within 2 mins of looking using Google.
http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm

http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/documentation/ST576/R540/InstallSetu...

Firstly if the unit is second hand, either ask the old user what address and password where applied to it, or default it.
If it wasn't changed then try this:
Make sure you have an address of (192.168.1.1 up to 253) with a 24 bit mask (255.255.255.0) on your PC ethernet port. Next connect the PC to the 576 via ethernet cable and logon to internal management console via explorer http://speedtouch.lan or 192.168.1.254
The SpeedTouch? comes with a default user. Its user name is ?Administrator? and the default password is blank
If you get access then you are away!
You'll need any info on the broadband connection settings from Daemon, but you should be able to see when the ADSL is connected correctly.
You need to check the PPP connection type (should be PPPoA)and the VPI/VCI allocation (should be 0/38).
Then ensure that the PC has the default gateway and DNS set to the router 192.168.1.254 address.
Specifying Demon's DNS servers on each computer would also be preferable. These have IP addresses 158.152.1.58 and 158.152.1.43
If you can then open another explorer window and connect to internet you just need to set the wireless up.
You will need to gibe the unit an SSID name you can remember and then set the wirless encryption up to wep128 for instance and set a password (use the alphanumeric or passphrase option which will need to be 13 digits long for 128 bit)
Ensure the SSID beacon is not transmitted, as other people will be able to see it and then try and guess the username password etc... (it just makes it safer)
You can then set the router to use either static IP address for PCs or DHCP, if the latter, make sure you limit the number range to the max number of pcs you will connect(4) you can then also setup mac addr filtering after they connec, to only allow the machines with the specific hardware to connect as well.

VPI SETTING 0 (zero)
VCI SETTING 38
CONNECTION PIPE Relates to the part of your ADSL login after the @ symbol as specified on your Account Card e.g. lon1-aj1e.demonadsl.co.uk
PROTOCOL TYPE OR ENCAPSULATION METHOD PPPoA (also known as RFC2364 in some equipment)
AUTHENTICATION TYPE CHAP
TRAFFIC TYPE UBR
FRAMING OR MULTIPLEXING METHOD VC/MUX
MODE ITU G.dmt
DIAL UP NUMBER Some modems may require you to enter 0,38 (or 0 as the area code and 38 as the number)
IP ADDRESS/RANGE As specified on your Account Card
