Okay. I had this shit dell 8200(intel P4) and i didnt want to spend 200 quid on 512 upgrade of rdram and i was sick of agp 4x so i got a new mainboard and amd 2500+ barton core(heard 'twas good for ocing). So when i connect my 2 old harddrives to the new pc. The bios loads fine. Then it says looking for boot records in ide0. It gets stuck there. So i change it to boot from my windows disc but when it boots, the screen just goes black and nothing happens. how do i fix it?

Try clearing the CMOS information. Then, reset the information in the BIOS, setting your CD as first boot option.

Also, check to make sure your Windows disk is bootable.

Actually, what you really need to do is format your main hard drive, and reinstall whatever version of Windows you have. Anytime that you change mobos, you can run into that problem, if you are trying to use the OS hard drive from before.

Sometimes you can get it to boot, without doing the format, but you will be plagued with having to install new drivers etc, and there will be remants of the references to the old mobo in your Windows.

Life is good!

Open the case, (turn power off by switch on the power supply unit, or better yet, unplug it) look for a silver battery on the motherboard. Remove it. Wait 30 seconds, then place it back in.

Plug in power supply, start the system.

@Grand:

The CD won't boot.
