So I've been running a Sempron 2400+ (1.87Ghz) on an Asrock K7S41GX for a while now. Other things are: 2 HD (1 Maxtor 80GB and 1 Samsung 10GB), Floppy Drive, LG DVD Burner (6167b), 2 memory peints (512Mb - 400Mhz and a 256Mb - 333Mhz, both together run at 333mhz) and 2 rear fans. Since I didn't have enough connectors to plug all that into the Power Unit, I stripped an old receiver connector from another computer and attached to the first fan's wiring, so out of one outbound Power Unit Connector I have 2 fans plugged in (one of them is a Pentium 3 cooling fan, not exaclty supposed to be a rear fan). Anyway, this info could come in hand I suppose...
I've recently upgraded my computer with an ATI Radeon 9600Pro 256Mb. Ever since, my computer has been acting kinda strange. Specially when big graphic games are on (although I do get it when I'm not playing games) I hear a 'puck' noise, like when the computer turns on or off. I assume this is a noise made by the PSU, since i had heard the sound before putting the graphics card on, and when I had a bad memory the computer would crash and auto-reboot, the same sound would occur... Which kinda leads to the conclusion it's most likely (unless someone can prove me wrong) my PSU causing the noise. Funny thing is, it does that, but the pc doesn't crash or restart.. it just keeps going, as if it was normal.... weird...
Anyway, I wanted to know if (1) It is indeed my power supply unit, (2) Can I have passed the limit of my PSU, (3) Does this present any immediate danger to my pc, or can I wait tranquily till I get more cash until I buy a better PSU, (4) is there anyway to test how many watts is my pc consuming?
My PSU is an ATX (Pentium 4 model) 12V and 350Watts of capacity
thanks in advance
