How to connect to internet at system start-up

Hi guys,
I want to automatically connect my PC to internet at system start-up. I tried placing a shortcut to my network connection in the WinXP Start-up folder but it didn't work.
Well... this is not a hardware-related question but I think you guys out there can help me to solve this out.
Please tell me how to do this?

How are you connecting to the internet? Broadband? If so, your connection is already live when you start up the system, but if you want to have your browser start up, simply add your browsers shortcut to the startup folder.

I'm using ADSL. Yes, my ADSL line is live when I start up, but still I have to connect to the internet using a Dial-Up like conncetion in my Network Connections... (Where you enter your Password and UserName)
What I want to do is automate this process...
PS: Somebody told me that I can do this with RASDIAL.EXE but I don't know how to...

You should be able to configure your DSL modem to keep your connection alive. You can enter your username/password into the modem config, and tell it to "keep alive". The modem config will be a web based interface, and should be pretty simple to follow. Post your modem model # here and I'm sure someone here (not me, as I have cable) can help.

Ok. Model of my modem is "Micronet SP3302A" It's an external USB modem.
Well... Don't you guys know any other way to do it... without messing with the modem... I mean what about that RASDIAL thing?
C'mon ppl... Help me...

Too usb is slow connection for modems. Hook that bad boy up via lan and yeah notice faster speeds. Two punch in the ip addy of yeah lan and access the web based utility. http://192.168.100.1/
That is the default ip of Motorala modems.

Still waiting for your help...
All I wanna do is automatically start-up my internet connection at windows start-up. There should be a way to do that without messing with my modem settings...
Does RASDIAL ring any bells? C'mon help me...

my pc does this for some reason, i dont no why, it just connects to internet as soon as i start up?, i wish i could tell you how, but i duno, i want to try and stop it!

Why disable it? Isn't it useful?
My old PC had that feature, So now I'm missing it.

Your ISP has to be on at startup without Dial-Up since there is NO Dial-Up. Just for kicks do you have a phone line connected to your internal modem like my brother-in-law did and thought he was on broadband?
Call your ISP provider and they will walk you thru setting up your modem to an Always on connect. If it?s not set that why then someone changed it. Your PC does not need to dial in since it can't on an ADSL modem.
PS Don't forget to remove that phone line to find out that you have been using a Dialup Internal modem.

No. I'm not using a dial-up modem. I'm using an extrenal broadband modem. Maybe it's something with my ISP, but I have to use a dial-up like connection everytime I want to use internet. Any idea why?
Anyways, I found a way to do what I want... 2 wordz... THINK-SIMPLE...
All I have to do is create a shortcut of my network connection and add the path of that shortcut to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\...\Run" in my registry.
For some reason placing the shortcut in my StartUp forlder doesnt work but when I place it in the registry it works like a charm.
If you have the same problem I had try it...
