Verbatim is the best between the two. I don't and wouldn't use Sony media for anything. There has been time when I would try to write songs or data to a sony CD media and it never worked really or if it did it wasn't good quality. But then I used the tdk CD media and it was smooth and everything. Sony is being sued now for their media causing problems to quite a few of others peoples computers. For making backups and everything my father and I use Maxell DVD+R media, HP DVD+R lightscribe media, and Verbatim Double Layer media. Now don't ge me wrong and everything; I do like sony and think that they make good products for some things. But I would not reccomend that anyone uses Sony's media.

I use Sony DVD+R and they work perfectly with my Matrix Infinity.
If you have a DVD Burner that supports booksetting you can burn your DVD+R as a DVD-ROM and they will be reproduced as the original.
I have been told that Verbatim also works perfectly. I have also bought Verbatim DVD+R DL because Sony doesn't make this kind of media, but I haven't used them yet. I will use one of them to backup GT4 and then I'll tell you...

ps2's do not like dxd+r & are not recommended (look at the forums), they cause all sorts of problems even for the new ps2, every DVD+R i have ever used has had loading problems, slow spots in the game or wont even work at all. i guess for you people who have backed up on DVD+R & it worked have lucked out.
use DVD-R every time no matter what the game title.
