Actualy I went a bit far with that remark. I should have said none that I know of. It is feasable for a card bus controler mfg to write a spesalized driver to emulate 32 bit then it could be dma.
With 64 bit processing hiting mainstreem they are going to have to change the standerds for card bus all together it seems.

My virtual memory settings were set to a custom setting, don't know why. I changed them to System Controlled. I reduced my processes to 25 and tried to burn again. At which point could the problem point to a Nero memory leak or something?

My thoughts, though I am only guessing at this point, are once I click the burn button Nero starts to accumulate/grow beyond 140,000 handles. And the memory used by Nero goes beyond 417,000(k). What I think, by using ProcessExplorer by Sysinternals, Nero is opening each file and not releasing the file somehow, because Handles (File) open but do not close. In this example trying to burn the 222,355 files would mean Nero would first have to open 222,355 handles before it even started to burn the disk. Talking to some of our programmers here... It sounds as though Nero is using new code and for some reason are opening the handles but not closing them resulting in an overload of handles. I have also been told it does not matter how powerful at this point my computer is. So to me the problem is with the application having a bug or they need to do things differently.

I suppose it could be a bug with the cache handeling. The handles themselfs has to remain open until there burned I would think.

Well my point is it only needs to be open long enough to start burning the disk. So now what? To Nero and everyone else my machine is not powerfull enough (Intel 2ghz 1gig). When in reality if I can burn with Nero 6 100% (Never Failed since I have been using Nero 5.5 I think) then the problem has to be with Nero 7.

Well you answered your own question. Your computer is plenty powerful enough. I think when they told you something about power they where refering to maybe to much runing in the background. It seems 7 is more power hungry then other versions. I know it will burn your files if runing right. Not to say it is or is not right on your system. Just saying amount of files has been no problem with mine. If it dont do the job and 6 does stay with 6 until they update 7 that works for you.

yea i would stay with six i am using 6.6.0.18 and refuse to upgrade to Nero 7 do your own research man it is Nero 7....the easiest way to know that is one 6 works and to if you scan the forums on message boards people are throwing a fit about Nero 7 all over the world...not to say it doesnt work...but it is definately like a spoiled little brat that needs a good ass whoopin now..i would personally give up on this Nero 7 quest and just wait when they upgrade and fix these problems they will admit they exist finally untill then just sit back and stick with what works man...no need to always have the newest
G*D damn it their goes NERO doing it again!!!

now i'm never one to (long term) wimp out and choose the easy option but in your case, if Nero 6 works for you, stick with it, let Ahead get all the (many) bugs out of 7 first. i for one am sticking to 6.x (6.6.0.18 in fact, i've read nothing but grief about 6.6.1.4 - shame on you Ahead for your sheer lack of bug testing and reliance on using everyone as guinea pigs for your lack of testing) - shoddy state of affairs Ahead, shoddy

I am so sorry that I purchased 7 with all the hassle that is going on with it. I am back at 6.6.0.16 and happily burning again. I had the 6.6.1.4 and it was also trouble, IMO I think Nero integrated parts of 7 in it. My burn speed was up and down, a problem I never had before. And, all my other programs were working well with no problems, but the minute I uninstalled 6.6.1.4 and used the Nero Clean Tool I ended up having to reinstall ITunes, AnyDVD and CopyToDVD all which reported corrupt reg. files when I tried to open them. Not sure what Nero has done with their program but I too wish they would correct it.

Well I will try one more version (update) then switch back to Nero 6 and wait for them to announce the real non-release candidate version of Nero 7.

I know this 1st hand had to go back to 6.6.0.18 as shrink /nero wont utilise the burn with 6.6.1.4,Kept getting an error.You can encode alright but thats about it

Done (again) and attached. Also you will notice I went back to 6.6.0.18 which works. I was told my machine was not powerful enough to burn disk of this size. My previous machine had only 512mb ram, 1ghz processor and 10gb free on the hard drive and never had any problems burning these disks with version 6.6.0.18 and below of Nero. My new system 1g ram, 2ghz processor and 25gb free on the harddrive also can burn with 6.6.0.18 and below. And NEVER fail. I am thinking you software is not caching the files properly as it is trying to load all the files in memory before it attempts to start writing the cache to disk. This thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/303623 shows a partial ProcessExplorerNT log showing all the files being opened but not closed. I had to stop the log because between Nero 7 and the ProcessExplorer the memory of course was depleting quickly. I have since been burning disks greater than 220,000 files without fail with 6.6.0.18.
Their Reply is hopeful...
"In one of the next updates the behaviour of open files will be changed, so that the problem should not occur any more."
