Read the thread "VSOConvertXtoDVD coming out soon", and decided that since it has already "come out", a thread addressing the new versions issues would be appropriate.

I started using the software yesterday. Someone from the "coming out" thread said that the only difference between the "new" version and the old was a simple name change. I also have used the old version and it appears the new has a few "bells & whistles) the old version did not have. Not a lot, but enough to consider it to be an improvement.

First it seems to run faster. Also, I don't remember the old version giving you options regarding encoding quality and time. The new version allows you to choose between low, medium and high quality encoding (with the difference in time to complete that comes with it).

One "negative" I noticed (which is the reason for this post), is that twice while trying to convert an XviD movie, VSO ConvertXtoDVD has ignored the aspect ratio settings.

On the first conversion, I relied on VSO's "automatic" setting to convert the Xvid file's (which had the 11:16 wide-screen aspect) to default to wide-screen.

But it converted to "full" (4:3) aspect, which stretched the image vertically bad enough to render the file unacceptable.

On the second run-through, I manually set VSO's setting to wide-screen, but again the file converted to 4:3, with the same stretching effect.

I'm still relatively new to this, so I wonder if I missed something. Is this an issue others have experienced, and if so is there anything that can be done about it ?

Thanks in advance,

Billy

Hi there,

Can you provide us a full log please ?

I don't know when the software decided when to flip from FullScreeen to WideScreen (Automatic) but if you forced it, either that file is weird or something did go wrong, but only a full log will tell us !

Are you having issues with all your files, or just one or 2 ?

I am a ßeta Tester, and never came across any issues with ratio using the Automatic setting.

Maybe it's just this/these files !

Are you using the latest v2.0.4.104 ?

No it's not just a name change, the converter engine was re-written 100% to fix several issues in v1.99

Now has a built in menu maker.

Man, I noticed the same problem. I converted 5 movies with the new VSo ConverXTODVD and they were all either full screen or littel panscan when actually they suppose to be WIDESCREEN.

But there is one more thing I noticed. The movie plays full screen or panscan on two of my new dvd player, but it plays as widescreen as it suppose to be in my old panasoic player. Weired?

BTW, I don't think I am doing anything wrong, I think there is a bug in the new program. I have converted movies with the old version of vso before and they turned out just fine.

cougar,

Sorry I didn't respond to your first question. The issue for me was because I was using the old version. Once I upgraded to ver. 2.0.9.119 the format "stretching" problem went away and everything has been working flawlessly ever since.

Well, I didn't save the log But I would take cougar word for it and hope the bug must have been fixed in version 2.0.9.119 since courage said that everything has been working flawlessly ever since.

Currently I just upgraded to v2.0.11.123 but I didn't convert any movie using it yet because I realized that this new version is takes too long to convert. Before my converting time was 2:30 to 3 hours for 2 700mb files but now its between 5 to 6 hours. I don't like this new version because speed mattters.

BTW before I was using version 2.0.4.104. This is the version with the bug but since cougar said that it looks like it has been fixed in version 2.0.9.119 so it must be fixed in my version too since it more recent than cougar. But why is it so slos. VSO was known for it speed and less gb output.

Hi,

The engine hasn't changed in ConvertXtoDVD between version 2.0.9 and 2.0.11. So if you noticed difference in speed, I think it would be related to the files you were trying to convert, or a mattter of what your computer may have been doing at the same time as the conversion.

Here are the list of things that have changed since 2.0.9: 2.0.11.123
Fixes :
- 0000117: [Bug] WMV file conversion problem: video is slow
- 0000116: [Bug] Video coming from 60 fps source (HR TV) won't playback on some DVD players
- 0000115: [Suggestion] Source with several video files: keep the video with the biggest resolution
- 0000103: [Bug] Font selection won't work if there is no printer installed.
- 0000113: [Feature Request] Include trace in registry for the last conversion status and folder ( command line SDK )
- 0000083: [Bug] Volume Name is always "Menu"
- 0000067: [Feature Request] Include option to shutdown when done ( available in action menu and must be pressed everytime it is required )

2.0.10.122
- intermediate build : implement font dialog in the entire application.

2.0.10.121

- 0000103: [Bug] Font selection won't work if there is no printer installed.
- 0000101: [Feature Request] Loading TS file from HD DVB source as a file cluster composed of several files
- 0000090: [Feature Request] Add more details in the logs about the subtitle files used
- 0000100: [Bug] some SRT files won't load fixed
- 0000099: [Bug] some SUB/IDX subtitles cannot be seen
- 0000098: [Bug] High CPU consumption during pause

Wow, I didn't even knew that now they have included the "shutdown" option.

Well, thanks, I tried the newest version, converted 2 AVI to a dvd and played on both of my dvd player and they played fine in letterbox and widescreen mode. The picture wasn't stretched to either full or panscan, the aspect ratio was perfect.

So I guess the bug was in some of the older versions. What funny is that I used more older versions before and they didn't had this problem.

But I still think new one is slower than the old version when it comes to converting. Well so far I only converted 2 files, I will convert more files and post a bold statement if it really slower or if it has to do with my files (being large).

I know this is off topic but since whoever has replied to the above post has good knowledge of what they are talking about, I am gonna ask a desperate question.

Now days most of my movies are having skiping problems. skipping ususally starts in the midddle or near the end of the movie and it affects more than one chapter.

Before I though it was the media because I was using chepeast media available. Teon, Playo, Fuji (fuji was expensive and I though it was good until I found out that it was not). So it was normal to movie to skip since they were burned on these media.

Then I start buying the Sony and man I was surprised by the performance, the movies which even Fuji was skipping, played flawless on sony. I burned many movies with sony (10 or more). I though I have found my dream buring media.

But since past few weeks I have used to VSO to convert 2 AVI movies and put them on one single dvd disc, But at least one of the movie or somtimes both have skipping problem somewhere in the movie?

I always burned at 4x, but still skipping. I have also burned 4.35 gb dvd iso, and AVI converted to VOB files as dvd on sony. But both types have skipping. I am realyl disappointed, whats wrong. I though sony was they best or one of the best? Why skipping?

Hello,

Where does it skip? On you DVD (living room) player, or even on your computer?

It never skips on my pc so I believe the file is not corrut. I have 2 dvd players, One expensive panasonic bought 3years ago, and a cyberspace dvd player bought one year ago.

The dvds skips in both dvd players at a certain part of the movie, usually it frozes and then I have to forward on to chapter after chapter until I find a chapter which could be played.

I am using the new Sony -r disk. Once again there speed is 1-8x but shows as 16x on my nec 3540 burner.

I might also have a download in process somtimes when I am burning the disk with Nero, could this affect the burning? I have 1.1 GHz processor and 640mb of memory.

What is the MEDIA ID of those Sony DVD-R ?

Media ID can be found using VSO Inspector, or looking into the logs of a burning session.

If it's still skipping, please me, and burn one at x2.0

I have EltoCheapo media here, and if they are not burned at x2.0 all I get is problems.

Since then I have learned !

I only buy Taiyo Yuden media now (Top notch quality, up there with Verbatim Media which is also top notch) !

Hi gandhrav,

so if the film once converted and played on your computer it does not skip, than the file is converting fine. If you burn the DVD (and not CD--as CDs could give you the skipping problem) and play the dvd with your computer with no skipping then the burning is fine also,

Do you think? then it would be a matter of media compatibility with your DVD players.

But when you say players are stopping at one specific spot in film that seems odd to me.

Are you burning with Nero or convertxtodvd, or sometimes either one?

As cougar mentioned, I too have learned a lot about how much importance media quality effects your results

another point may be the downloaded file! If the skipping is at the same point every time...... check the original file! play it on the computer! Are you sure that the file is good? sometimes downloading a file becomes slightly corrupted and when you convert it, it keeps that minor corruption and thus your skipping at the same point every time. Otherwise, check that there's no thumb print on your disk, or something that is causing your players to have reading errors and causing the skips! After that, Sony makes great disks, manufacturers ID from Taiyo Yuden , MCC, RICOHJPN, all good to desent disks but some players are finicky about what it reads! Most likely your skipping has something to do with the disk itself, or the file that was converted to disk!

cougar:

If I remember correctly, you are a beta tester for VSO.

If so I have a suggestion for improving the product the next time it is updated/upgraded.

I was running an on-line scan at TrendMicro, which requires an Internet Explorer Browser window to be open. While this was running, I opened VSO to convert a video file. It prompted me that there was an update available, and would I like to go to the VSO site? I clicked "yes" and rather than opening a new window in IE, VSO "hijacked" the open browser that I needed to run the TrendMicro scan and used that window to go to VSO. Which cancelled my online scan with TrendMicro and I had to start it all over again.

VSO is a fine product, so I do not believe this to be a "serious" issue, however having VSO open it's own browser window when updating would improve it's usability.

Thanks for your consideration,

Billy

Hi there,

Yes, you are right.

I have the priviledge of trying out ßeta versions.

I will keep in mind your suggestion, and pass it on to VSO Officials.

*BUT* Keep in mind, I think this is normal behavior with Internet Explorer.

I think VSO send a call to Internet Explorer to go to this site, and has nothing to do with which window opens, but then again I may be wrong.

Again, I will talk to VSO to see if they can force a new window instead.

Cougar,

Thanks for your quick response.

I don't know about this either, but I believe I have seen some applications automatically "default" to open a new browser window, while others do not.

It has never been an issue before, except for the nature of the TrendMicro "on-line" scan is so delicate, and the consequences so severe that the issue became a problem for me.

Thanks again,

Billy

Hi,

Actaully the 2.0.14 was never a public version and remained in the beta stage.

There is an official release of 2.0.15 made available yesterday.

Here you will find the version history http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/history.php

and you will notice a fix for "- 0000222: [Bug] 2.0.14 (beta) subtitle appears twice on screen"
