I have been looking into buying a 40-42in HD tv for a while now and have came to the conclusion that there is not a huge difference between plasma and lcd and I would go with either one. But what im wondering is there any new technology thats going to come out any time soon that would make the curent models obsolite.

The 1080p models! Plasma can't do 1080p under 60" but LCD can. The 1080p LCD flat-panel sets are expensive though.

There is also SED that is scheduled to debut sometime this year.

Don't yall get it yet? There will always be a new best thing in any thing! Just like a pc,old before it's time. If you want that TV go for it. Just know you will see something later on that you wished you had waited for. Everything becomes obsolete. Es la vida! I prefer LCDs

I say wait until sets are available that can display true 1080p without upcoding and can accept 1080p signals through a wider variety of interfaces so you know you'll have no problem watching high def DVDs and some day be able to get cable/satellite in 1080p. Once the resolution and 1080p interfaces are set square the only necessary upgrades will be in pucture quality.

This is an age old quandry, like 10 or 20 years worth. About 5 years ago I had to decide on whether to get an analog 50" set or get a much more expensive digital set. I'm glad I went with analog because I would have missed out on hdmi and maybe even dvi, not sure on that one anymore.

I'm pretty much ready to buy a Sony sxrd but am going to wait to see if next years model will accept 1080p inputs. If not then I'll have to decide to wait some more or not.
