They're not. There's no way to finish multi disc games that require a mid-game swap if you're using Swap Magic. If you can't save in between discs, you're SOL. The only way to play through multi disc games that a require a mid-game swap is with a modchip with multi disc support like the DMs 4 Pro SE or the Matrix Infinity.

Well as long as that would allow you to boot a saved game off disc 2 after the mid-game swap, I don't see why not.

Quit with the all caps messages. Either wait a couple weeks for the U.S. release or look around the net for some Onimusha DOD-Jap save games. That's not the purpose of this forum. If you're going to ask for ODOD save games, do it in the PS2 game section.

@tokijin

there is no difference between using swapmagic and using a modchip, when it comes to 2 disk games.
i have never heard of this multi disk swap feature being required
i have a old messiah 2 modchip, that boots these games fine

if the game has 2 disk's,then there is a swap involved, and there must be a save point at the end,(somewhere)

whats the difference from using swap disks or a modchip?,you still need to reset the ps2.
all 2 dvd games have a save point at the end

@vgaddict8,
are you talking onimusha 4 (2 dvd)?,i have not played this game fully yet,so cant be of much help as regards to the save point.but usually its after you have defeated a end of level beast

btw, have you figured out how to change the language to english>?,if you havent,i will post how to

Sorry Hursty, but that's not true. Not all two disc games allow you to save in between discs. If the game requires a mid game Swap, there's no way to play through it with Swap Magic. If you try to boot off the next disc while you're last recorded save is on disc one, the game'll prompt you to insert disc one. And if you try to insert your Swap Magic disc inbetween discs, then insert your original, there's no way to access the boot menu. The PS2 will read that it's not original disc, and you'll be stuck. If you try to insert your backup using a case mod, the disc will spin and hang at the "insert disc two" screen or just sit there motionless. Either way, there's no way to play through the game. This is one instance I'm 100% positive. Cheers!

and what game would this be?
and what do you do if you have a mod chip?
i have most 2 disk games,(cant think of any that i havent got)and all of them have 2 menus

i have just taken a look at onimusha 4,i am at stage 5 on disk 1,the strange thing is ,i loaded in disk 2,loaded game data from the memory card, and on disk 2,the game continues on disk 2,where i saved it on disk 1.
i think this game spans across both disk's,with overlapping levels

btw:someone has played this game with swapmagic, and completed disk 1,and saved it,then continued on disk 2,9confirmed on other site)

If you have a modchip, you insert disc two, and since the chip is hard wired into the motherboard, the PS2 believes it's an original, then you can continue. This would only effect games that don't allow a save after each disc. But if they don't, well it's curtains. I became familiar with this phenomena on PSX. Before I had my PS2 chipped, I used Breaker Pro to boot my PSX backups. I had several multi-disc games, as I'm a big RPG fan. There is no known way to play through PSX/PS2 multi-disc games that require a mid-game swap using a disc swapping method. There are Urban Legends and theories, but nothing concrete. I'm not surprised you haven't encountered this before, it's not a well known issue. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it's never been consistently been done and replicated by others. As far as I know, the only way to play through multi disc games that require a mid-game save, is with a modchip. That includes anyone using a MC exploit, and HD Loader/HD Advance. Not all modchips include multi disc support either. The "big three" do. It may be possible in this instance, but it's not the norm. If you've got Breaker Pro, disable your chip and try using a disc swapping method to finish Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Valkyrie Profile, Thousand Arms, or Lunar 1 and 2. Sorry old chap, but this one is out of even your reach. If the game doesn't have overlapping layers as this one does, I'm afraid people are SOL. Cheers!

all the ps2 games that i have, that are 2 disk's all have save points at the end

if what you are saying is correct, how does disk 2 know that you have completed disk 1?

all the 2 disk games i have, have got menus, with an option to load the game on both disks

if you insert disk 2 and try and load it,you must select "load game".
it will then check for saved data from the memory card, this will verify that disk 1 has been completed, and disk 2 will continue

until someone points out to me a game on the PS2,that is a 2 disk game, that doesnt allow you to continue, after you have completed disk 1,then i am stumped

i a little confused here...?

modchip or no modchip, you still have to load the save from the previous disk.
like i say,i have never come across a game on 2 disk's that doesnt allow a save at the end....whats the point in that?,you could skip disk 1 and go straight to disk 2

maybe i have got this completly wrong.....dunno

All those games I mentioned for PSX have no menus. If you try and swap discs using a case mod, it'll sit there motionless, the disc tray is what signals the copy protection check and that it's time to load the next disc. If you try and use the disc tray using a swapping message, you'll simply get the "error insert disc two" method. If you have a PSX backup that's multi disc, try starting a new game off disc two or three. Then when it prompts you to insert disc one, you'll see what I'm talking about. Since you and I have an MI which supports multi disc games, no prob. If you have Breaker Pro, uh oh. Now this is silly, because obviously in that case you'd simply start a new game off disc one. The reason I mention it is that it simulates a scenario that requires a mid game swap without a save involved. If what I'm saying is accurate, what would you do when confronted with such a scenario? If threre's no overlap, and the game requires a mid-game swap, and requires that you switch discs, how would you proceed with Swap Magic/Breaker Pro?

PSX backups?

whos talking about those?

we are talking about ps2 2 disk games

vgaddict8 is talking about onimusha 4 which is on 2 disk's
there is a save point at the end of disk 1,of which after this, you simply boot up disk 2,load up the data saved on the MC,and continue,(as you do with all 2 disk games on the ps2

so i am bit lost,

I'm saying this scenario does exist no matter how infrequently it comes up. Maybe you're right about all PS2 games allowing you to save at the end of the disc, I don't know for sure. If this scenario occurs on the PS2 or PSX, there's theorectically no way to finish the game using a boot disc. It hasn't been replicated with consistency to my knowledge. My question to you is outside of this game, if there is a scenario where there is no save in between discs, and there's no overlap (i.e. a swap has to be made), how would you finish the game with Swap Magic? There aren't a ton of multi disc PS2 games, but I bet there are some which won't allow a save in between discs. Maybe not, my point is this a rare scenario. If someone with your expertise hasn't come across it, I think that point is validated. It's probably not a subject worthy of protracted discussion, at least not until we know for sure there are PS2 multi disc games which do not allow a save in between discs. Anyway thanks for the intelligent banter in the PS2 section, it's a nice change of pace. Cheers!

Thanks for the concern Boobooman, but we're not really arguing. Hursty knows I have respect for him, he's taught me a lot of what I know. It's merely a discussion between two knowledgeable people. I only meant that it's rare to have a discussion with somebody I consider my equal. No direspect to anyone else I talk to on AD, it's just a nice of change of pace from the "How do I burn games" and "What media is good" questions. Cheers!

Yeah you can save after disc one. I double checked GameFAQs to be sure. It's been awhile since I beat the end of disc one. I got to disc two and said to hell with it. So you did get X2 working with the TY's?

havent tryied yet going to have ago later

at the end of the day a muti disk has to be better than a dual layer at least you have a good chance of no problems with swaping disk rather than trying to boot a dl

If you check out is God of War thread, someone claims to have booted a backup of GOW with Swap Magic. He claims it's backed up from an original and not rebuilt. I don't necessarily believe him, or that he knows what he's talking about. In fact, Hursty that sounds like it's right up your alley. There's no way to boot DVD-9 games with SM right, the TOC size is too low. That's what I have always been told the reason was. Here's the thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/292598

the game 24 is going to be DVD-9 i believe,my "mate" has the 2 dvd release,(available now)which was split onto 2 disks, but this got nuked due to loading problems, although some claim to have completed it by loading game data to and forth from disk 1 and disk 2 to play each separate level
