I am in need of a PCI sata 3.0 controller card. Right now I have 3 250gig 3.0's and 1 120gig 1.5. I am wanting to make my 120gig as my C drive and the other 3 make a RAID where one acts like a mirror drive of the others. My motherboard only has 2 sata connectors so I need a controller card for the other two. This is the first raid I have wanted to put together and I am not sure how to do it or what controller card I need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jeremy

newegg.com and tigerdirect.com are two good online computer stores, they probably have PCI SATA cards, if not try pricewatch.com and search for your card, and it will find the cheapest online store that carries them.

I searched newegg but all I could find was for sata 1.5 drives and I believe my google searches lead me to tigerdirect and I wasn't able to find 3.0's with 3 ports either.

I did a pricegrabber search and it found quite a few drives but none of the 3.0's were 3 port (that I saw anyway). I saw alot of 2,4,6,8 but no 3 ports.

why dont you get a four port card then if youve seen one... you dont have to use all the ports you know, 3 fits into 4 quite nicely ;P

I think I will just go with the 4 port. Where can I find some good info about creating a raid with 3 drives? I am going to be able to make the 3rd drive a mirror of the other two or can you only make a mirror of 1 drive to another? This is my first time making a raid and mirroring.

i dont think you can have raid with 3 drives

it tends to run in parralell sets so there has to be an even number.

id invest in another drive aswell if you want raid or just use two drives in raid and the other as standalone
