I'm in the market for a external (usb 2.0) burner that will burn Memorex DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01). Any suggestions on a burner I should get?

I can't find a list of compatible media for those drives. Do you own those drives? Can you confirm they work with Memorex DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01)? I have 2 DVD+R DL burners and each of them aren't compatible with this media.

Here's a link of compatible drives that will work with the DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01).

That chart is for Ritek RiData 2.4X DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01). I'm looking for Memorex DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01).

I can confirm these burners don't work with Memorex DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01):

Sony DRU-700A (Firmware VY08)
LG GWA-4161B (Firmware 1.15)

The chart for Ritek RiData 2.4X DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01) lists the Sony DRU-700A (Firmware VY08) as compatible, so I don't think that that list can be applied to the Memorex DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01).

Sorry, but you can scan their web site for those discs, and they will/should inform you of what is compatible.

Good luck,

Rich

You know, of course, Memorex re-badges most of their discs, what makes you think those are not compatible to the Ritek RiData.

Best regards,

Rich

I'm just saying that I can't use that chart for the Ritek RiData 2.4X DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01) as a reliable reference tool for the Memorex DVD+R DL (RITEK...D01) because it contradicts my results.

@nrk4594 hi :)
it does'nt matter who's brand name RITEK..DO1/DL..goes under ,be it Ridata..Memorex.. Datawrite etc. they are still made by the same manufactuer RITEK corp taiwan. so as sytyguy has stated. the list applies to all of the retailers, because the disc's are one and the same regardless.

Then the list must be erroneous as the discs I have don't work with my Sony DRU-700A (Firmware VY08). I've went through 15 of the discs.

Well, I have to agree with "gurnard", naturally, so perhaps you have a different problem.

Good luck,

Sounds like a problem that could be cured more cheaply than buying a new burner.

What programs are you using?

Is your firmware up to date for you burner?

What, if any, error message do you get...word for word.

Are these really your current drives, if so, the LG has a bad rap over at cdfeaks, and I cannot find firmware for this drive at least not at http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

You definitely have a weird problem

Good luck,

Rich

well, the lg isn't supported by the company and they don't acknowledge ever making it. It came with my tower. That drive will never get any firmware upgrades.

As far as the SONY 700A, it has the latest firmware. Sony lists the verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL as compatible on their website, but nothing about Memorex. The thing is, I bought quite a few of the memorex and I don't want to see them go to waste. As far as the methods, I've tried these without success.

1)DVD Decrypter: Mode-->ISO-->Read, Mode-->ISO-->Write
2)AnyDVD + Clone DVD - Created an .iso, then burned with DVD Decrypter
3)AnyDVD + Clone DVD - Created an .iso, then burned with Clone DVD
4)AnyDVD + Clone DVD - Created an .iso, then burned with NERO
5)AnyDVD + Clone DVD - Create VIDEO_TS folder, then burned with NERO.

I would select 2.4x and it would start to burn, then it would stop and I would get a write error.

The way I see it, I either:

1)Try the Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL as that will probably work, and hope for a firmware that will allow me to use the memorex.

2)Buy a new external that is confirmed to work with the Memorex.

I take it that even the Sony does not burn your DL's properly?

Well, I figured you had bought many of the Memorex DL's and didn't want to discard them, that's a shame.

Good luck, it's not that we didn't try,

Rich

Thanks for everyone's help. I think I'll just buy a 10 pack of verbatim and see if that works. If not, I'll get a new burner.
