Hi
Im running windows XP sp2.I have 2 dvd rw connected with a 40 pin/80 wire cable(at least i think its 80 wire, read somewhere the motherboard end is blue the other 2 connectors black). One of my writers is a Liteon 16H5S which i read supports UDMA4.How can i tell if its running UDMA4 and not UDMA2? A transfer burst rate only shows 24/25 ish( some ppl are getting 44!).Cant seem to find a setting in my Bios or in system information.
My computer is a P4 3.0 running 3 gig of memory so its more than capable.Any ideas please
Ta

To change or check your UDMA status do the following:

1. Go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager.
2. Double click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
3. Right click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected,(Primary, Secondary, etc), select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.
4. In the "Transfer Mode" drop down box ensure "DMA if available" is selected if the current setting is ?PIO Only.? If the drop-down box already shows ?DMA if Available? but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the just toggle the settings.
5. In the "Current transfer mode" drop down box choose Ultra DMA Mode 4 if it's not already selected. Again you can just toggle it for good measure if it's already selected. Here you'll see if your setting is defaulted to UDMA 2 or if it's already optimized for your DVR-RW.
6. Click OK and that should do it.
Hope this helps. Cheers
