I just installed my flip top on a ps2 slim and was wondering how big a difference I'll see in compatibility using DVD+R and bitsetting vs just plain old good quality DVD-R method (I've read the quality media guide as well) using swap magic 3.6? Are the majority of my backups more likely to run without problems if I use DVD+R and bitsetting? Thanks in advance!

I'm a DVD+R person and I can safely say that I've been "book typing" them into DVD-ROM over a year and all of my backups (dvd movies or PS2 backups) worked flawlessly. Yes, DVD-ROM is the best, safest and infact, it is the one and only "universal" format for all PS2 consoles or standalone dvd players. As a matter of fact, all original PS2 games and dvd movies are pressed as DVD-ROM only. Therefore, your PS2 console can play any original PS2 games flawlessly. The same thing apply to dvd movies, thus your dvd player can play any original movies without any glitches.

If you're burning with top notch media like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Hitachi's Maxell (made in japan) and "book typing" or changing the "bitsetting" into DVD-ROM, then you shouldn't never have any problem of playing any of your PS2 backups. Make sure you burner is capable of "book typing" though.

A good rule of thumb is to always burn at anywhere from 4X - 8X only, regardless of how fast the media can go (i.e. 16X). In addition, make sure your burner has the latest firmware available as well, if you don't, then update the firmware asap. Firmware increase the burning performances and enhances media compatibility.

Good luck!!

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

i agree with above although i am not able to do it myself.
My burner will not book type the media. And without being able to do that both my PS2's and my Xbox just did not like the +R at all and i would have a lot of glitches in the game.
so i use a good 8X DVD-R and have been using them for years
I do all my movies, PS2, and Xbox games on them and have yet to have a problem.
I guess it really depends on the quality of media you decide to
use, rather than the +R/-R thing.
If you use quality media, and you burn them the correct way then
you should have no problems.
If your burner doesn't support book typing i would go with a -R
rather than a +R though.

Thanks guys, I have an NEC burner which does indeed do book typing. I guess I'll pick up the Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's from SuperMediaStore. I just wanted to make sure before I bought them as the +R's cost about $5 more over the -R's. Thanks again guys.

sure thing. One other suggest i forgot to make is that most people do better if they buy a few 5 packs of some good media to see what will work best for them. Now if they are real Taiyo Yudens you
should have no problems at all.
