i am choosing between two cpu's... the Intel P4 830 LGA775 3.0Ghz DUAL CORE 2x 1MB Cache 800FSb, and the Intel P4 650 LGA775 3.4Ghz 64bit 2MB L2-Cache 800FSB(with HT). I dont know wether the extra 400mhz and Hyper-Threading will make up for the DUAL CORE? what are your opinions? Also if there are any other better cpu's around the same price feel free to mention them.

Go dual core. HT is a "virtual" core...and will not provide you with the performance you think it will.

I agree with Morph416 but here's a little explanation. The obvious difference is the power of 2 procecessors(and take note not dual processors, but dual core) vs the power of one despite the benefits of HT technology. Even if you benchmarked the single core processor at 3GHz vs 3.4GHz there would be about a 10-15% difference in performance for most tasks. There's a rule of thumb that says a 10% improvement is the least that you're going to be able to notice without using a stopwatch. Now if you're planning to use programs which are resources intensive, then here's where it'll make more of a difference but should not out perform the Dual core 3.0GHZ processor you mentioned. A multi-processor system is faster than a system with a dual core processor, while a dual core system is faster than a single-core system, all else being equal. All things are not equal in this case and I believe that the dual core is the preferred choice. It's important to identify the compatibility between the demands on the PC and the power of the PC. So that you don't go overbudget for no good reason or end up with an underpowered PC on a lower budget. Have a look here http://www.intel.com/products/processor/pentium_D/ and click on the dual core demo link. There are dual core processors from AMD but I'm not too familiar with them so you could probably do a Google search for that.
