Hi, I've burned many PS2 games successfully on TDK 8x DVD+R's and Memorex 4x Dvd-R's in the past. I have recently switched to TDK 16x DVD+R's (should be the same as the 8x ones right?).

I've tried burning 4 copies in total.

1. Tried it on my desktop (has the best burner) using Alcohol at 2.4x. Tried booting it and it was stuck on loading screen.

2. Tried it on Laptop using Nero this time at 8x(accident). Tried booting it and it was stuck at loading screen again. However, unlike the first one, some word noises played while loading.

3. Tried it on Laptop using Alochol at 2.3x. Tried booting it and it was stuck at the loading screen with the noises again.

4. Tried DVD Decrypter at 2.0x. At 99%, it said that data cannot be written in some blocks. Tried loading it and was stuck at loading screen again.

I've searched around and some other people are experiencing the loading screen problem BUT claim to have fixed it. The sad part is that they didn't post followups on how they solved the issue.

I'm not sure if this issue has to do with my TDK 16x DVD+R's (Can anybody post any success/horror stories?). TDK 8x DVD+R's worked fine and this game should work as well.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've read 16x media can give the PS2 laser some problems. I use Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R's. I burn at 4x. TDK isn't the best media. Try backing the game up on quality 4x or 8x media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. I have two copies of TOL, one backed up on High Grade Maxell DVD+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM and another on Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R's, they both play perfectly.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:

Know any place where I can buy maybe 5 packs?

I just looked around some vendors and the Verbatim 10 packs are killing me with price. Know any other brands that are good but not great? I'm trying to spend less than $10 (with shipping) on some samples to see if it works.

None I'd recommend. Good media is cheaper than crap media, if you get it from the right place. You should be able to find Verb's locally.

106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com
