Tokijin: i read your thread on the chips... you've got more thorough details there for sure, i'm closer to choosing a chip, now.

now, the question is this, the hd loader stuff for the dms4 se pro (and maybe matrix infinity) can be downloaded from their site. that's simple enough. so, do i burn that download to a cdr? or can i use a cdrw?? (i mean, that would be a waste of a disc, unless i can put 'em all on one disc for back-up purposes), but it wouldn't matter so much. it's just one cdr.

i am totally leaning toward the dms4 se pro, since your thread says it supports the multi-disc stuff. it has all the functions of the matrix infinity (grandfather of 100%ps2 bootrate), plus the dev.elotion stuff that means i can use a hd some day. right?

i'm sure you can.

here's what i know about the patches (ANYONE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG):

some ps2 games have dummy files on the disc, that don't play right off of dvdr's, or something.

they should be easy to find.

1. rip the disc to an ISO with DVD Decrypter.
2. bust the ISO with ISOBuster.
3. explore the folder with the files you just made.
4. find the dummy files, they're titled "dummy" or something obvious.
in another folder, create a new text file, and only put on space in it (press spacebar, and save it).
5. save it as the same file name as the dummy file, with the same extension, and replace the dummy file in you're ps2 file folder.
6. re-combine the files into an ISO.
7. follow whatever steps required to burn your disc to be combatible with whatever you got that lets you play copies.

(MY TIP: (what i am doing) rip your ISO's for now, keep 'em in a safe place on your hd, and experiment.

GD AD servers. I typed this long response which got wiped out because of a DNS error.

@ ashman24 As far as I know, it's not possible to rebuild on a Mac currently. The necessary software isn?t compatible with Mac OSX/Virtual PC at this point in time. I?m not 100% on this, you may want to check around the Mac PS2 forums for someone more familiar with burning PS2 games on a Mac.

33. Q. I have a Mac, how do I burn PS2 games?
A. Dual Layer or DVD-9: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/252607
Single Layer or DVD-5: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/220420

@ mrsds Yes you download the flash upgrade and burn it to CD-R. CD-RW/DVD-RW's are terrible for the PS2 laser. The DMS 4 Pro SE has a HD Loader program built into the flash. The DMS 4 Pro SE runs off Toxic OS, a third party flash upgrade designed by Team Toxic. The Toxic OS allows the DMS 4 Pro SE to boot backups/imports. Team Toxic also created their own HD Loader program and included it in Toxic OS. It's an excellent program. You transfer the games to your PS2 HD with Winhiip or HDLDump, then you hook your PS2 HD into your Network Adapter, and boot your games off the HD with Toxic OS HD Loader program. The Matrix Infinity also supports loading games off a HD, but it's a little more involved. You download HD Loader/HD Advance, burn it to CD-R, and install it to your MC with Infinity Manager. That or you FTP your PS2 and install it that way. It's a little more involved, but does the same thing. I'd recommend the DMS 4 Pro SE if playing games off a HD is your primary concern, due to its ease of use and effectiveness.

No prob. Good luck on getting a chip. I wish more people would research the process like you. There'd be a lot less posts about clone chips and butchered PS2's if they did. Cheers!
