HI. Probably a complete neewbie question..............
I have an 8meg bulldog connection with a speedtouch 330 modem.
When running bitcomet it disconnects the modem. I have lowered the amount of dounloads to 2. Set global download to
250, upload to 30. and have 50 connections per task. It runs
sometimes for hours, then disconnects the modem. Its gettin
frustratin. (i was gettin some good speeds till it shuts itself down)
Do i need a better modem? or is there something i can do with
what ive got?
(by the way, i have mcafee firewall turned off, and i have run the
patch to upgrade the max half connections to 50. (actually set to 40)
Maybe ur isp blocks/throttles/shapes Bit Torrent activity. Once it recognizes that ur using bittorrent it may shut off the modem. Sounds quite drastic but it is possible. Sounds stupid but are u sure u have a secure connection between the modem and the power source. The reason I say this is b/c I have had a bunk power cord and it gave me soo many problems.
Also does ur isp use VOIP?. If they do, it would be beneficial to find out what port # they use for it, and u can use that port # for ur client/firewall(s). Then ur isp cant touch ur activities. (what I do)
thanks for the reply. what i forgot to mention was when the
internet hangs, all i have to do is restart the computer and its
up and working at full speed again. I used bicomet as an
example, it actually happens with edonkey and limewire when
the the connection speeds get too high. (sorry to ommit info,
was just trying to simplfy it).
Looking into the voip suggestion as i dont know what it is.
(complete noobey).
looking into it not sure how to find out about whether my isp uses
voip.
hmmm. Maybe ur pc cant handle such high activity, what are ur specs?. I would also suggest calling/searching ur isp for other people having the same connectivity issue's w/ their modem. (could be just a bunk modem)
U could also try ”Torrent as it has a much smaller interface then other BT clients and takes up way less cpu usage. I'm sure u have ran (up to date) spyware/virus detection tools, right?, lol.
To be honest I dont use a router and therefore I know very little about them, but that could be ur answer. For ur router questions/help I would suggest these threads:
