Which encoder? TMPEnc, Mainconcept, CCE?

According to all experienced users out there. What is a good encoder between these? and of course why is one better then the other? I am transferring and editing home movies to DVD, I need some help, suggestion and direction please. Much appreciated.
I normally use Vegas to capture and edit and encode thru Mainconcept, DVDlab to author, NERO to burn. I have used TMPGEnc before, and works well but slow.
I would rather have great video quality, then speed.

I find tmpg very good it is slower but in my experence the faster you encode the worse the quality

CCE (with avisynth) will probably get the best results, if you've got the patience to learn a new language.
Mainconcept will produce excellent results, faster than TMPGEnc, with as many options, but no wizard to hold your hand.
Canopus Procoder (express) is also excellent, although slower.
Tmpgenc can produce great video, at a fraction of the speed of the other 3, with the right settings, lots of patience (set it to run over night).

So basically they are all good. I guess visually one would not be able to tell the difference for regular movies, unless its something very very specific and critical.
What is avisynth?
How would you rate the encoders in order of quality produced. Taking into consideration that the movies produced are home made of good quality but not technically critical.
I don't mind investing in some software for the longterm gain.

Quality can be the same from each. It's based on the quality of the original, and the settings you use.
Take price, and encoding time, and Mainconcept seems to be the best bang-for-the-buck.

Yep, I agree, no low quality input can be fixed, I have never used CCE but MainConcept seems to be the way to go (for me) for both quality and speed.
