Hello all,
I've been using Nero (6.0.0.0)& DVD decrypter for about 2 years now and never had any problems. About 3 weeks ago I got a new burner (benq 16x dual layer lightscribe) and it came with an updated version of Nero (6.6.0.14). I installed the new version and while I thought it was a little quirkier and I didn't hang off the interface changes, it still worked.
Then about a week ago I went to burn a compilation and clicked an old like down in my program bar that I didn't realize was actually the old 6.0.0.0 version. (I had thought the new program updated over the new, but it actually installed a 2nd version in a different location.) and now basically it's screwed.
In an attempt to fix it my self I've read through this and other forums, taking the suggested fixes. I've used all the nero clean tools and programs like reg scrub. I've completely uninstalled, clean tooled, reinstalled about 6 times. I've tried going back to my original 6.0.0.0 and I've tried your recommended 6.6.0.18 with no luck. The best I'll get is 1 burn when I first bring up the program, then as soon as I close and re-open the program and start to burn it fails. Even DVD decrypter, which was working for the first couple of days after the initial problem, is failing now. I'm sure due to something I've done in an attempt to fix nero. I'm at the piont where I feel like my only option is a reformat, but that's going to be a huge undertaking. I'm hoping someone here can help.
Here is a copy of my latest fail log. When the write error came up it froze this time for about 5 minutes. I cancelled before it got to the "writing high compatibility borders" stage, where it usually fails for good.
oh... I only use good media, verbatim, fuji, memorex, sony. All disks that both my old burner and new burner have burned previously with no problems.

I kown you state you're using good stuff, but the burner is having a problem with it.
I wasn't able to locate a firmware update for your burner, the benq site doesn't even list it. Try using dvd decrypter's check for firmware update function and see if it can locate one for you.
EDIT: Did alot of checking and I did find a firmware update for your burner (wasn't easy), it should be version BCDB. You can get it here..

I don't believe that the nero update has anything to do with this problem, version 6.6.0.18 is very reliable. It could be just that one disk you tried or several bad ones in a row (who knows, getting multiple bad presses is not uncommon). That recorder according to the manufacturer should be able to handle any brand of media, it states:

I'm not totally convinced, try the update and see what happens, also try other brands of media tested to work with the recorder.

These layers are not reqiured for Nero to do its thing since it comes with its own shown below.

This driver is installed and working correctly, this can be verified by simply running the Nero info tool.

Like suggested by Gwendolin, your Windows Aspi is corrupt. But, like johnl123 mentioned, Nero has its own Aspi that allows the program to do its thing.

But, for Nero to be allowed to do its thing, I would take Gwendolin's advice and install a proper Aspi, or, completely kill the corrupted Aspi and forget about it(that's what fixed my Aspi problem). You are better off without Windows Aspi, as Nero has its own, but you can not leave it corrupt. It will give Nero problems.
This is what Nero reports after I killed my corrupt Aspi:

Ok... I'm burning again. I think it was the firmware upgrade that did it though because I did that and tried kill aspi... I now have both Nero & DVD Decrypter burning again, but when I checked my Nero log after the good burn I got

So that means even though I ran kill aspi (I tried to run the aspi replacement file gwendolyn recommended, but I got a "can't run 16-bit program" error that kept saying it couldn't locate the exe file when I clicked on it) it's still partially still there... is that right?
Anyhow, I'm just grateful to be burning again... you guys rock!

Glad to see that the frimware update did the trick for you, I thought it might.
Again, don't worry about those aspi drivers, there're not reqired and will not cause a problem for you if left as is, nero has it's own and that's really all you need. My setup is the same way and I've never had a problem with nero, just use good media and keep everything upto date and you should always be good to go.
Reguarding DVDdecrypter, it's setup by default to use windows SPTI driver, so no worries there, here's some info on that setting:
In the Interface section, you can select how DVD Decrypter accesses your DVD drive. The default SPTI works if you have an NT based operating system (Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003), and does not require any special drivers. All other options require special drivers that you first have to download and install (these are the drivers you were directed to try and install, but as you can see there're not needed).
