Memorex are about as BAD as you can get.
I normally buy Verbatims 50 pk for 19.99 at my local best buy.
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM
(made in japan) MY CHOICE #2
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:
RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R)
Quality can be very questionable, about 50-80% success rate:
LEADDATA or LD01 or LD or LEDA = Lead Data = (-R)(-RW)
PRINCO = Princo = (-R)(-RW)
RITEK = Ritek = (-RW)
ONIDTECH = OnidTech = (-R)
Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate:
RITEKG01, RITEKG02 = Ritek = (-R)
PIODATA = Lead Data = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded PIO = Fake Pioneer = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded SONY = Fake Sony = (-R)
Unbranded MXL = Fake MXL = (-R)
ACCU = Unknown OEM = (-R)
LONGTEN = Unknown OEM = (-R)
AN31, AN32, ANWELL, AN30 = Unknown OEM = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (+R)(+RW)
MATRIX = Unknown OEM = (-R)
CMC = CMC Magnetics = (+R)(-R)
CMC MAGNETICS ARE MAINLY MEMOREX.
I wouldnt use them under any cicrumstances
Possunt Quia Posse Videntur.

What makes Memorex a bad disk to use?? Does Maxell fall under the same catagory as the memorex?? What type of problems does the memorex disks have that I should be aware of??
I am using memorex now and have not had any problem with them recording or with playback (i take that back 1 disk has a skipping problem).
Thanks again in advance for your help!

I have been using Memorex -R for my Panasonic DMRE30 dvd recorder in my home theater and in my Memorex dvd burner with 99% success rate. That is 99% because I didn't convert a PAL to NTSC. Out of 60 single layer and 30 dual layer on my pc, only one problem and that was my fault. That's not a bad record. "Results may vary!"

Make sure your firmware is up to date on your burner and keep the burn speed at 2.4 or less for the dual layer. I would suggest though switching to verbatim dual layer - much better quality. Dual layer coasters to me are a little too costly!

My firmware is up to date, but I was using a unpopular program. I burned again (on a Memorex DL) using Nero. No problems. I usually use Nero. I must have lost my head that night.

Again I must I have to say I have had very very very few problems. Over a 98% success rate. I have been backing up movies off of my E* hard drive for years on everything from Walmart specials to Verbatim. Never have I had something fail. This last instance was due to a crap program. Yes, I made a mistake, but I will have to stand behind the luck I have had with Memorex. And yes, I said luck. And again "Results may vary!"

I use Office Depot brand DVD's which are rebranded Ritek's. I just got 100/8X on sale for $25.
I got this link from another thread here, a lot of usefull info. http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm These are really good DVD's!
