I have copied a movies with CloneDVD2 and that went fine.
The problem seems to come in if I try and make 2 copies; the second copy results in a dvd that cannot be copied.
Sometimes the first copy cannot be copied from.
A friend of mine ran into this problem months after he had been using the printable dvds; he found he could not make copies of the movies he ripped.
I am not sure if the dvd media can be blamed for this and I am not sure that the program can be blamed for this. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I thought that if it can play on the computer you should be able to copy it and I am not finding that to be the case.
Another problem I have been experiencing with CloneDVD2 is that it will make a copy which my computer cannot read. It will give an error that the movie is in an unsupported format. Just for the heck of it I throw the same movies into a dvd player and they will play.

Sounds mainly like a media problem. Burning at high speeds can also cause some problems along w/ not having up to date firmware. All this plays a part in how the player/burner can read them. Players are also more forgiving if the discs has errors - burners are not. When ripping they are ripping every byte.
So what media are your all using? Burn speed? Is the drives firmware up to date?

Hi,
That media is prodisc; purchased at meritline. I don't usually burn at top speeds but sometimes I may forget to look. I don't burn over 6x; sometimes 4x if I think there may be a problem. I have a benq and a memorex burner and think they are up to date on the firmware as they are not that old; but how do I check?

Prodisc is ome iffy media - not the best. I had problems with it myself.
To check your firmware you'll need the model # and current firmware version on each. To find your current firmware right click on 'my computer' > click on hardware tab then device manager > find your drive under dvd/cd-rom drives right click on it on select properties then details tab you'll see a something like this liteon sohw832_________VS06
The firmware is listed after the model # - in this example it's VS06.
You can then go to the manufacturers website and check for an update or this site: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
I'd switch the media your using also to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim - great stuff!

Your having a different problem then the one this thread was started with - it's better to try and search 1st then if you can't find it start a new thread with all the info. Another problem is downloading movies (unless they're not copy protected/copy righted) is um illegal.
Look at your source files.

I too am having trouble coping from my copied DVDs. It does not happen on every movie... just some- so it cannot be firmware if some could be copied from coped DVDs. I use "Taiyo Yuden" Thermal 8x and burn at 4x .The problem seems to always be at the end of the reading stage.

It's always best imho to keep the firmware up to date. One thing it does is 'teach' the drive read/write strategies on media - esp the newer ones.
Since yours are mainly at the end of the reading - when doing you backups set the target size to 4360 or lower. Won't burn to the edge of the disc.
Now for Taiyo - like you're using - I've burned to the end and so far no problems reripping.
If a disc ever gives me a problem - I use DVD Decrypter - it works great on discs that may have a 'bad' spot.
