Hi,

I am wondering if you should put the SAME frame rate, aspect ratio, resolution, etc. into the TMPGEnc as what is shown in AVIcodec? For example, if frame rate is 23.976 fps in my AVI, should I put that into TMPGEnc, even though NTSC is only supposed to be 29.97 fps?

Also, most of my AVIs have an aspect ratio of 2.21:1 - I've never seen this before, how do you guys deal with that? Do you make it a 16:9 MPEG2, even though it will stretch out somewhat?

Sorry for the lame questions, I am trying to encode my first AVI and nothing seems to be working out. Thanks for your guidance.

AVI specs:

File : 699 MB (699 MB), duration: 1:46:37, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 44 %
Video : 597 MB, 783 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 576*320 (16:9), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
Audio : 102 MB, 134 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

Let make TMPGEnc make the work for you. Run the wizerd and choose what you want. Just edis 'motion search precison' and the frame clippong, if you need to.
The variables you're speaking of are the 'source aspect ratio' , and TMPGEnc choose the most fit for the encode every time it loads a new source.

If your AVI is 23.976fps it shopuld be encoded with the "Encode Mode" set to "3:2 Pulldown When Playback" and the Frame Rate set to "23.976fps(Internally 29.976fps)"...

And if you set the "Video Arrange Method" setting to "Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio 2)" it will resize your AVI file to DVD while Keeping the Original Aspect ratio so it will look the Same on TV as on your PC accept with Letterboxing.....

Your AVI might have a Display Aspect Ratio of 2.21:1 but it has a Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1:1 so it will get resized to "720x400" and then there will be a 40 Pixel Border on Top and a 40 Pixel Border on the Bottom...This will be Done for you when you set the "Video arrange Method".....

And if you have a Regular TV set set the Aspect Ratio to 4:3 and if you have a Widescreen Tv set then set it to 16:9.....

Cheers
