The tv set I just bought is Samsung TXR3079WH. I dont have a dvd player right now so I just hooked up my ps2 to test a game and also some dvds...I am having problems with the widescreen picture size...as it says 16:9...I chose that setting on the tv to watch a widescreen dvd...but when I do this...it stretches the already wide image to even wider and the people looked stretched horizontally!!! same as a game on ps2(I switched the game format to widescreen)...so I had to try Zoom 1 setting and thats fine but the image is cropped and the pixels are more apparent. Right now the only way I know to watch an undistorted widescreen dvd is on the 4:3 picture setting...and that leaves thick black bars surrounding the entire widescreen image(so its like actually a 20inch widescreen)...am I doing something wrong here or is it the PS2? I hooked the ps2 to the tv via regular RCA jack to the frong inputs...Does a regular dvd have the same problem with widescreen format? thanks in advance...

Set your PS2 to output a 16:9 video signal.

Set the tv to full or fill screen mode (where the image fills the intire screen but doesn't zoom).

Think about investing in a "Component Video" cable for your PS2 to improve picture quality.

I finally tested San Andreas an switched to widescreen and it works fine...although the quality is not good...so I will try a monster cable I have somewhere around...but on the dvd side though...I still cant watch a widescreen dvd on the entire screen unless I zoom in 1...and that in turn enlarges the pixels...the tvs 16:9 mode further stretches an already widescreen format...anyone has this same tv?

I have the same TV actually...I only used my PS2 with it for a couple of weeks, as I just got an XBox360. I'm not sure what the problem is...if its in 4:3 mode, the black side bars should appear...but disappear when in 16:9. I never had a problem playing any of my widescreen games, such as Madden. I have never used my PS2 as a dvd player though, so not sure what is happening.

Hey logjammer...how long have you had this tv and do you like it so far? I just got it over the weekend...I dont have a dvd player yet so maybe the quality will be better....but anyway...do you watch widescreen dvd movies with your slimfit tv? if so what picture size do you use? 16:9 or Zoom 1 or 4:3? I assume ps2 is same as a usual dvd player...and I have to use Zoom 1 to fill the entire screen...16:9 just wont do it....still has black bars on top and bottom...

I'd get the DVD player soon, so you can make sure that your HDTV isn't defective. You should just about always have the Samsung set to 16:9...even if you are watching television that is broadcast in 4:3...the black bars will appear on the sides, then when you tune into an HD channel they will disappear.

I LOVE the Samsung Slimfit so far, I've had it for probably about a month or so. Looks amazing playing Xbox360 in HD. I really thought this HDTV was a total bargain...the picture is better than or just as good as the lcd flat panels at comparable sizes...and it was like half the price...and obviously doesn't take up too much room, depth-wise...

I can't imagine why anyone would use those zoom features.

My only complaint is about carrying the thing up my stairs...I can't believe how heavy this thing was.

Get a DVD player that has component output jacks, and optical audio jack for the best picture.

yea that is what i was about to say, ps2 very much indeed does make componet cables, s-video cables. if i'm not mistaken they even have an adapter that has an optical input, but i'm not too sure on that.
