It's probally the disc, Use better media brand or a brand that your ps2 can read. IF it still doesnt work than your ps2 has a problem or the disc you are using are not supported, If you are using a DVD+R than that may be a reason, use DVD-R's. If you are using DVD+/-RW's than that's another reason, cause most ps2's can't support DVD+RW's/-RW's.

i have a few.
1. get better quality DVD's
Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Philips, Ritek, Maxcell (made in Japan only)
in a 8X DVD-R. Burn them with DVD Decrypter at 4X speed.
2. If your burner supports Booktyping (Bitsetting) then you can do it in the options of DVD Decrypter under Tools->drive
3. Make sure that your burners firmware is up to date. http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

and you didn't say how your PS2 was modded to play back ups so that is all i have

Swapmagic is a disc set that you use with your PS2 in order to play mods.. You need a Fliptop or Slide card (Fat older PS2's) or Magic Keys or other mods for the Slim PS2's

"how about instead of flaming you actually help people? hey there is an idea"

i would tend to agree. We were all in the same situation at one time and were all new to this modding scene.
But it also would help if people did a little research on their own and didn't have to be spoon fed every little answer.

There is no way around it. If you do not mod your system, you are not going to be playing any back ups.
there are only a few ways to play back ups.

1. if you have the old chunk style then you can use a slidecard that you can make, search the forums and you will find a template on how to make one. You use this with Swap Magic and you will not void your warranty. This is by far the very worst and most annoying way to play back ups.

2. You get Swap Magic and a fliptop for you chunk or slim PS2. This one will void your warranty but is so much easier than the slidecard method.

3. Get a good modchip soldered in (DMS4 or Matrix Infinity)
This is by far the best mestod and the easiest to use. This will cause the least amount of problems for a newbie. It will void the warranty as well. But it is very simple. Put in a back up disc and it will load just like an original would.

There are many advantages that a mod chip has over Swap Magic but rather than sit here typing any more i will let you do a little searching on this post as i know myself i have posted it quite a few times.

I hope this has been helpful

thanks everyone for the help. I did a search fo swap magic and got near 200-300 posts. each somewhere from 1 - 100+ pages. went through about 4 of those noticed it wasn't saying anything at all about what i needed so i quit looking lol. but this will help alot. Personally making back ups is nice. but if i have to modify my ps2 to do it i think i will pass for now lol sorry to be a pain everyone.
