Folks, I am really a newbie here so please bear with me.

I read the FAQ and initially I was lead to believe that
all I needed was to download the ripkit software, burn a
new DVD disk with special instructions and then simply use
the newly burned DVD in the game console (mine is a PS2,
and I tried a backup of Final Fantasy X) and off you go, but
it turns out that this is not the case for me.

Re-reading the FAQ lead me to believe that you will need special software (such as Spin-Magic) and/or special hardware (such as
mod-chips) BEFORE you attempt backup a game disk, right?

If my assumption is true, maybe this info should be at the HEAD
of the FAQ to make it clear that these pre-steps are needed BEFORE
attempting to make a backup game disc?

If my assumptions are false... um... what did I do wrong
in making the backup media per instructions given by Alochol
and others?

When I followed alcohol's steps, I noted that when I used DVD
Decrypter on the PS2 FFX game which created a ISO file of 4.402GB
then used isoBuster v1.9 - to break up the ISO file, I got a folder that had a total file size of 5.03 MB, so it seems that something
isn't quite working right with the isoBuster?

Since I was not able to get isoBuster to working and since the
ISO file created by DVD Decrypter was 4.402GB, I proceeded to use
Nero v6.6 and burned the DVD and it turns out that PS2 will not
boot nor recognize the backup DVD media. No surprise here. huh?

If you can, please clarify my understanding of what is needed here
at least regarding my "pre-steps" question?

Kind regards,
Dan

AKK... ok, I found the relevant faq information
and it answered my question, quite clearly. :-D

So, you need Spin-Magic OR mod-chip BEFORE you can
use backup media.

Ok, ok, I get it now. Sigh...

In case you didn't read this faq thread (it has a lot of good info), here you go: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/15105

You can get swap magic and the tool you need for $25-$40 (depends on if you have a slim or fat ps2), well worth the money.

V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero
