Hi guys, me again.

I currently have an XFX 6800GT, nice card n all, but my motherboard only supports AGP4x atm. I am, however, planning to upgrade my motherboard this coming June to one that supports AGP8x. What sort of performance jump will i be looking at? Double the frame rate in games, maybe?

Cheers,

Blighter

it depends on the rest of your system aswell, you need a good processor and a lot of memory to get the best results from a graphics card like that

Studio Comp: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ OC ~ 2.35GHz runs at 40 celcius idle and 48 under stress (aerocool GT1000 really works!), Asrock K7VT4A , 1024MB Dual Channel DDR 400, MSI Nvidia FX5200 128MB OC ~ 600MHz mem 350MHz core,80GB SATA + 200GB SATA + 120GB IDE, 7.1 Channel Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum EX sound and midi interface. 19" Sony SDM-HS95 TFT monitor - sweeet
Comp2: AMD Sempron 2400+ OC ~ 2.0GHz (Stable), Asrock K7S41GX, 512MB DDR 333, Onboard Graphics, 40GB Maxtor IDE

set of monitors on the way soon :P
Google is your friend...
WorkComp: LAPTOP, intel celeron D 2.4GHz, 256MB DDR, 20GB hd. NO SCREEN IT WAS SAWN OFF :S (bag of crap)

Shouldn't he be looking at a motherboard that supports PCI Express Graphics Cards? Last I heard, those are much better than AGP.

Resistance is futile! You will be assimilated!

Windows XP Media Center Edition, Pentium 4 3GHz w/ HT Technolgy / (1) 200 GB Internal SATA Hard Drive and (1) Western Digital Caviar 400GB Internal SATA Hard Drive,
2GB DDR 333MHZ / RADEON X700 PRO 256 MB PCI Express Graphics Card / 1 Westinghouse 19-Inch LCD Monitor
Logitech X-531 5.1 Speaker System

1 MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen with a 2.16GHz Intel Core Due Processor

raceman: he has brought a 6800GT AGP card so y not just get a new AGP motherboard as he probley doesnt want to upgrade the WHOLE of his system quite yet as that could cost him around £1000 where as a new motherboard would cost him around the £60-100 mark.

That is correct. I'm a poor student at the moment so can't really afford a whole system :-P The 6800gt was bought fairly recently, so i don't really want to have to get another card in June! I'm upgrading the processor to an Athlon 64 3400+ (which is an upgrade from my P4 1.6ghz), so that should be a fairly decent upgrade...I'm having 2 gig of ram in there too (2 x 512mb + 1gb).

Then u will be looking at a new motherboard, u can try to get one which has AGP & PCI-E if u want to keep ur current graphics card and for future upgradabilty.

You can get those? Where!? Tbh, there's this motherboard bundle i'm looking at (motherboard, processor, 512mb ram, cpu fan + heatsink) for £190, which is the reason i'm going for it...i can't seem to find anywhere cheaper (even buying the parts seperately!)...

cheers Blighter
