Okay, so if you haven't noticed yet I'm having some problems with heat, lol. I am using SpeedFan 4.28 to monitor my PC's heat, and I am seeing some rather disturbing values. On the "readings" tab it says "remote" under temperature and currently (with just this window and winamp up, and with 40 running processes using 1% of my cpu) reads 133 degrees F with a lil flame beside it. Lol, I am assuming that this is not good because before i purchased a moderately sized desk fan to blow into my comp, shortly after booting up windows I would recieve a shutdown notification due to an unexpected termination of my RPC (possibly because it got too hot) initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. I've had this PC for a year and haven't had this much heat trouble out of it until I installed this new Sony DVD+/-RW (listed in sig). Now, unless I have this desk fan on full blast blowing right on my mobo, my comp will restart about 5 minutes after turning it on. Also, even with the fan on, my comp will restart if I use around 60-70% of my PC for a short while. Do i need to get an enormous CPU fan as well (I don't care if it's as loud as a low-flying airplane)? If not, how can I solve this?

check the cpu fan to make sure that it is working also make sure you don't have dust,pet hair etc... built up between the heatsink fins.Personally I don't see how the addition of a optical drive would cause this problem,if anything maybe the psu is complaining.

u can try to buy any aftermarket fan, make sure the cpu fan is working and pluged in ;), i could be that u need case fans or anything, try this http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html this will tell u temps and see what ur temps are like it wil tell u cpu mobo gphz card ect, i find this is much more help, it may be ur video card fan thats going?? or maybe ur psu as boxwrench segested.

I was experiencing heat buildup. Check and found the CPU was covered with dust to the point that the fan was blowing air backward -- bouncing off the cpu. Cleaned both the fan and the cpu, and now, when I'm doing heavy DVD burning I leave the side of the computer case open. Cools it down quite a bit.
I shared this with my nephew who said his computer was actually shutting down. He found the CPU fan was so clogged with dust it wouldn't even turn.

Ok, I got the newest version of everest, but I don't see any mention of temperature in the program. I found out how to hide the voltage and temps but I don't see the temps displaying in the first place. By psu do you mean power supply? I hope it's not that, this power supply is only like a year old. My video card doesn't have a fan (although all the 9550's that u can buy now do) just a large heat sink. And my computer being dusty is out of the question, I keep my computer very clean inside and out. Every heat sink is dust free. I felt some heat around a cap cluster by my cpu fan and thought one of them could be leaky, causing it to heat up, but I checked those and they are fine. If anyone has any additional ideas, please throw them at me!

how many fans total is in the case? does the cpu heatsink feel hot or warm just after it does a restart. is the heatsink sitting firmly on the cpu? check for blaster worm as possible cause of "unexpected termination of my RPC (possibly because it got too hot) initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM."

The CPU is the Central Processing Unit. If, for example, your computer has 2 GHz of processing speed, that means your CPU, or Processor, speed is 2 GHz. (Giga Hertz)
My mother board (Bio Star) came with a program which displays the actual "Real-Time" processor speed and also the real-Time temperature of the Processor, as well as several other readings that I don't understand.

ddp: There are 3 case fans, one on the side, one on the inside, and one big one at the bottom to bring air in and between the HDD's. Not to mention the deskfan I have propped up inside my computer. The CPU heatsink is firmly placed and secured on the processor, and the heatsink only feels slightly warm. Also, I downloaded the fix for that worm and it said the worm wasn't on my computer, which I figured because if any virus/trojan ever made it past my firewall it was isolated and code modified by me, then removed.
wdowsing: Under Computer>Sensor in Everest there is nothing. the entire window is completely blank.
Samuelzen: <boggle>I appreciate the response, but to be honest dude, I have no idea how a quote about a PSU could in any way trigger an explanation of a CPU </boggle> printf("suggest phonetics course?\n"); lol
navi95: Again, I appreciate the response but it's definately not that wannabe's worm :).
So my computer restarts when I start to call upon its large ammount of resources, but as of 3 days ago I am also unable to play any of my games O_O. Shortly after the game (any game, internet or not, CD required or not) the application terminates with or without an error notification. I switched out my memory with another set and encountered the same problem, in addition to disconnecting my slave drives (both primary and secondary) and booting up with each set of memory. All of this to no avail. I'm thinking about also replacing my mobo, memory, psu, and video card to route out any additional anomalies. This won't happen for quite some time unless I get this job I hope I get as an electronics technician. Lol, which I hope is soon because I haven't played a computer game in 3 days.....and I'm already becoming twitchy. Since the day I built this computer it has been whimsical. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
