the version 12 is the only ps2 that needed the laserfix, if people are having their v13 or v14 chipped some people install them on v13 & v14 as a precaution but it is not neseccery.
as you are using swap magic you will not need it unless you want to open up your ps2??? if you still have a warranty then i wouldnt open it.

using swap magic & GOOD media will not wear your laser out any quicker than it normally would take. (tayio yuden, verbatims & sony (made in japan) discs are good quality.

The PS2/PSTwo just plain old have crappy lasers and always have. The slim fixes the the summ0ne fix and the comsoft V4 fix do nothing for the simple fact that Sonys lasers wear out quickly. The fixes protect the laser from frying its self if there is a mechacon crash which will make the laser fry its self in a matter of seconds. People get the wrong impression about these "fixes" they think that are a cure all, which they are not. The fixes are a preventive measure incase a more serious issue arises. I have even had people ask if a laser fix will fix there burned out laser, no once again the fixes are for preventive measures and will not stop the laser from wearing out under normal use.

To also adress your other questions the V13 and V14/15's do not need an fixes.

Uh I wouldn't call the TTH02 Media ID good media. MIJ TDK's are average at best. I know the famous media link says otherwise, but that is misleading. TDK MIJ media isn't that great. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are superior by a long shot. I'd recommend using quality 4x or 8x Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim instead.

86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com
Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm

106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

Yeah it's not like using them is going to make your PS2/burner explode in hellfire or anything, it's just the PS2 laser is picky. I've run into several people who've had issues with the MIJ TDK media. You can use them for movies or whatever, I'd just pick up some Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's for PS2 games.
