i open device manager and both cd rom and cd rw drives are not shown
also are not showing up in my computer . i am running windows xp. do i need to reinstall drivers . anyway this problem is on a 431mhz cpu
and it is talking for ever to load windows.(use to load alot faster)and when i look inside case there is no cpu fan. did this come like this from the factory,because i never took one out .please help

check your device manager to see if there is an exclamation mark there & what error code is showing. does motherboard see the drives? what is the system specs as in amount of ram. have you run your anti-spyware programs? what is your system performance like when you do ctrl-alt-del & what does it show for amount of ram available?

there is no exclamation mark in device manager.it dosent even list cd rom drives . it has 192 ram . in task manager total ram 196016 .avalible ram 46988 . i wonder what happened. thanks again

how do i find this out .it dosent seem too because there not even listed in device manager. this happened i think when i tried to update firmware on the one.

could it be the cable from the mobo to the drives and thanks again ddp . anyway ran avg and sais about 10 trojans ran hijak log is everthing ok. maybe that explains slow loding of windows

reseat rom drive data cable. also disconnect 1 drive at a time to see if drive seen in windows as 1 bad drive could be knocking other drive off line. try another data cable.

thanks ddp will try another cable . crazy ? is a cable from hard drive the same ?????.i have a brand new one here somewere. these drives are for sure getting power . the one opens and closes light goes on for a few senconds . other drive light stays lit but wont open .

hd cables are the same. the 1 drive not opening is probably causing the problem. disconnect it 1st before trying new cable

ddp your right on the money .well i put new cable in and just left the one drive hooked up .it worked fine and showed up in device manager.tried with both hooked up(even the one with the light on)and wouldnt work . even made windows load sloooooooooow .thanks again ddp . sorry about all the wise cracks before.i guess the one with the light on is total junk????????
