Please provide a link to where I can download the best DVD copying software to date. I bought DVDxCopy (3.2.1.0) in 10/04 and then updated it to version 4.0.3.8 (from afterdawn.com link). Although, I have used 4.03.8 with success most of the times, there are times that I have problems. I think it about time to get a better copying software.

One site says 1ClickDVDCopy is the best right now. Another website says DVD Cloner III. It's so confusing not to mention the price they want.

DVDFab Decrypter
DVDShrink
DVD Decrypter
VobBlanker

All free programs, if you use these you will not need a whole lot more.

If you want to pay then buy AnyDVD or CloneDVD well worth the money. Stay away from DVDCloner it is just a ripoff program.

I just downloaded DVDFab Decrypter and pardon my inexperience, I have a few questions:

Once it decrpted the movie to my hard drive, how do I burn it to blank DVD?

Do I need a DVD burning software?

I have Sonic MyDVD that can burn CD and DVD. Can I use it? If so, do I just burn as if I am copying the files, or in this case the two folders (video and audio) that was created by DVDFab Decrypter?

Or do I just copy the ALL the files in both folders? In other words, no folders? Please provide step by step instructions. I am used to DVDxCopy that I just follow what is on the screen.

Thank you.

If all you're looking for is/are some free ripping and backing up tools, then get these freewares below. Yes, sometimes some free tools are indeed the best.

<1> DVDFAB Decrypter (one of the best ripper at the moment)
<2> DVD Decrypter (a ripper and burning engine)
<3> VobBlanker (one of the best invalid data structures or dummy cells processing tool, it can easily blank out any unwanted junks "i.e. fbi warnings, previews/trailers, commentary, etc.")
<4> FixVTS (another awesome invalid data structures or dummy cells processing tool)
<5> ImgBurn (a burning engine "for ISO image" from LUK, the author of DVD Decrypter)
<6> DVD Shrink (a transcoder/compresser engine, also a ripper for older movies)

Here are 2 free methods that will work 100% on any movies/dvds (new released or old). Yes, if done/followed precisely, then I GUARANTEE YOU that it will work 100%. I wrote those 2 guides for Newbies or those that are interested or those that don't have the latest from AnyDVD.

IMPORTANT: I advise you or anyone to TURN OFF AnyDVD, DVD43 or other cracking engines that's running in the background, if you're going with these 2 free route. It's for the best... because if you had AnyDVD, DVD43 or other similar cracking engines running in the background, then you are likely to end up with some kind of errors, and or it will conflict one another only.

<><> Method 1 (DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker) <><>

<1> rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter (get the latest available)
<2> process the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker (only 5 - 10 minutes to "process & correct" all dummy cells or invalid data structures, etc.)
<3> DVD Shrink to transcode your VIDEO_TS file created from VobBlanker as normal via Open Files
<4> burn your final ISO image with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn

<><> Method 2 (PgcEdit + DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins + FixVTS) <><>

<1> PgcEdit to rip & re-rip the movie from scratch using DVD Decrypter with the help from PSL plugins/file
<2> FixVTS to process and filter out any left over craps, junks or bad sectors, etc.
<3> DVD Shrink to transcode/compress as normal
<4> burn your final ISO image with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn

The only different for my guides is that I used Nero Recoded 2 with "AA + HQSR" and sometimes DVD Rebuilder Pro + CCE SP instead of DVD Shrink. You can use DVD Shrink all you want (it's free). However, I highly recommend using "DA + AEC (max sharpness or max smoothness) though, this will produces better quality in results.

For more info, just click on those 2 bold links under my sig. or click on my name and just take a quick look/read at my blogs.

Best of lucks to all and happy burning!!

Since you have ripped your file with DVDFab Decrypter you now need to run it through DVD Shrink and create a iso image which you can then burn with Sonic. Here is a guide on using DVD Shrink, and some other guides for you to read. I know how easy Xcopy is I too used this program at one time, but with the newer protected movies it does not always work.

@mace71299

I too agree that DVDRB is one of the best apps out there.

thanks for all the advise. I am currently following the "Guide" in http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm that was suggested by LOCOENG. Particularly it was the "Backing Up With DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink." I was able to do up to step 30. In step 31, the DVD Shrink 3.2 wont show the titles and extras that were copied to my hard drive in earlier steps. I double check the hard drive and the files were indeed copied (in fact, available memory went down by almost 7 GB.) Why is that? I cannot proceed with the rest of the steps to make a DVD back-up.

if you have done up to step 30 in the guide then you should have a picture as shown with the main movie on the right side of Shrink! Double click on the movie folder and you should have a picture as shown in step 31! just read and follow exactly and you'll get there!

And that is the problem - it doesn't show the pictures on the right side as shown in the guide! I double click the movie folder and NOTHING. I redid the steps and I can only get up to step 30. The titles and extras wont just show in the right side!

Did you rip your movie in file or iso mode? If you ripped in iso mode the movie will not show up in the side, you need to go to the file tab on the bar and then click open disk image to get it to open.

If understand your question, I think I ripped it in File F Mode. This was in step 10 of the Guide in using DVD Decrypter and Shrink.

Did you try the open files tab instead of the reauthor tab? Usually in reauthor you should be able to browse to where you put your folder and then open the VTS file.

Edit: You must have ripped the whole movie, if you have gone down 7g so try the open file tab.

Try to use AD's instead of BB's manual and see what you made erroneus or if something is missing from the second one. Personaly I believe that something is missing from your part (strictkly my opinion)while reading this.

I agree, there are a number of other guides available. If you used bb's guide it lists you to rip Main Movie + IFO's. This can cause some problems for newbies. Rip the whole movie and then just use the open file tab and reauthor.

These guides show you how to backup using Shrink only, which you can do. However, there is new encryption that Shrink cannot handle alone and you will then need DVDFab Decrypter to rip.

Thank you. I will study those links when I get a chance.

I was sort of able to follow bb's guide in using DVD Fab, Decrypter and Shrink (I kinda gave up with just using Decpipter and Shrink guide. Maybe it has something to do with what you said, i.e. there is some encription that Shrink cannot handle.) However, I am copying a foreign movie. The copied DVD does not have the English subtitles. How do I select the English subtitle?

In Shrink choose the edit tab, then preferences and stream selections then choose English as your subtitle.

I just did the "English" subpicture choice as you suggested and it is currently encoding it (will take 35 minutes.) However, in the encoding view window, I don't see the subtitle. Does this mean anything? Or the English subtitle automatically appears when I play it back?

The movie I am trying to back-up is The Best of Youth (Italian).

The subtitle should appear on playback, at least I hope it does. Good luck :)
