It didn't work. Any other suggestions? Just a recap, I followed bb's guide in using DVDFab-Dycrpter-Shrink, except for your suggestions about the English subpicture.

Are you saying the movie does not play, or that there are no subtitles? What region are you in and is this movie the same region and in NTSC or PAL format?

Copied dvd plays but in Italian, no English subtitles. Since there is no Menu in the copied DVD, I could no make any selection to invoke the English subtitle feature. The Best of Youth is an Italian movie released here in the US. When played, original DVD automatically shows the English subtitles.

Did you rip the whole movie disk and then reauthor because you will lose the menu function in reauthor. Here is an easy solution to your problem. If you have not tried AnyDVD and Clone DVD then dl the 21 day trial of these two programs. AnyDVD is a driver that breaks encryption and if there is any funny protection it will break it, Clone will encode and burn your backup. You can get them here

http://www.slysoft.com

These two programs should work and are easy to use, you can also reauthor and preserve your menu. Are you getting any subs on the movie I am wondering if this is one where you have to choose the subs from the menu.

thank you and I really appreciate all the help . . but i am really getting frustrated . . . and I have been spending a lot of time already for this . . .

First, I was told DVD Fab was the best ripper and it should work great with Decrypter and Shrink. I then downloaded these applications and spent considerable time in learning and using them. It did work, but now, the subtitle issue.

Now, you are recommending another set of applciations - AnyDVD and Clone. I am not really tech savvy with computer and I really dont want to keep downloading applications.

Let me sleep over these suggestions.... thanks again.

In reauthor mode you have to check the English subitle. I understood that they already existing in the original compilation. Some times according to the length of the movie dvdshrink does not auto check DTS sound and some subtitles (if I remember correctly). Once you have a free of protection compilation in your hd dvdshrink does not fails.
Suggest use at least dvdfab v.2.9.7.2, dvdshrink v.3.2 and vobblanker v.2.0.1.0 if any protection is on the movie.
One other way is that after dvdshrink use IFOEdit to isolate movie only with the appropriate audio and subtitle streams before shrink (if it is still need).
Run IFOEdit. Select movie only-> strip streams -> select destination folder -> Choose video (e.g vts_01.xx) and audio streams you wanna keep and proceed. after that open the new video_ts folder always with ifo and press Get VTS Sectors -> Then press quit and do not select save changes.
Then open dvdshrink and simply choose backup.
That's all folks!

Arniebear, please help (again!). I did use AnyDVD and CloneDVD per your suggestion in the last thread. I followed bb?s guide in using AD and CD. The only thing I unchecked during the process was French (both audio and subtitle). It did complete the process but it was the same result - copied DVD was in Italian and I lost the menu function, thereby preventing me from invoking the English subtitles.

Can you be kind enough to tell me STEP BY STEP on how to use AD and CD to copy this Italian movie (The Best of Youth) with English subtitles? How do I re-author to preserve the menu? Thank you.

Here is a guide the is comprehensive for both AnyDVD and Clone, it explains everything including the settings.

I googled your movie and it does say English subs, if you still cannot get these subs after doing again, check and make sure you have the subs turned on for your player. Otherwise, have you considered trying a dual layer backup which will give you a 1.1 backup, i.e. an exact copy of the movie.
